Sweet car, but nowhere near as fun to drive as my E92 328i.
But, by far, the neatest thing about the car was the heads-up display. It showed speed, the "arrow display" you get on your iDrive, cruise control status, and warning messages. VERY well designed. I was also really impressed at how the color changed from white to red as the sun set. Now I want HUD in my E92! Pic: |

They are pretty convenient to have. I had it in a loaner x3 and it was a pretty weird phenomenon at first. It looked as though it was sitting on the top of the front of the hood. It think the only HUDs that are worth it are the ones in the M cars

I use two free iphone apps for HUD. One's called SpeedHUD and the other is Awesome HUD.
I lay the phone on a sticky pad on my dash and it projects it low on the windshield. I can only see it when it's dark out but works great! |

I have it in my 14 X3, have coded a bunch more stuff into it, phone info, callerid etc, entertainment info, see radio stations, song list etc, added blinkers, it is cool but a total gimmick and could live without it. It also doesn't work at all with polarized glasses (like BMW radio displays - I will never understand why they can't figure this out and fix it!)

it's okay, i personally wouldnt take a 528i unless i lived in a fairly flat city and power wasnt an issue.

I think someone here installed some tape over the display to make it viewable again, but it's hardly worth the hacking of the radio unit to do so... +1 with that stupid radio display. Thankfully everything critical I need I can see on my iDrive display... |

Yep, my wife just turns it off because all her glasses are polarized - seriously BMW - I have never had an issue in any other car but a BMW with polarized glasses.
