X5 Buying advice. UK. Stick or Swim.

With everything going on.. I get the prices of Used cars but one or two official retailers are listing 10k over book!

I have an old 7. Back issues now. Thought about a F15 as the G15 is stupid money.

If you were me would you sit on your hands or maybe find a private one and do the checks myself?

Or leave it for now completely until things calm down chip wise?

Thanks for your help.

Chips won't calm down in a predictable way. Ignore chips and deal with the market as it is.

If you have surveyed your market and have decided that 10k over book is the going rate, you can either pay it, buy private as you mentioned, buy a different less expensive vehicle, or wait.

What about a Japanese brand or VW Tiguan if X5s are too dear?

The X5s hold some money - so I like that.

I know BMWs and have an ex tech specialist looking after my cars.

Yes Tiguans are even worse for what you get Touareg is one of my favs... but again costly.

I like the advice...appreciate it. Always very balanced and straight.

Good words... - you are right - it wont calm down... in a predictable way and frankly I doubt people will be clambering for EVs so the days of major depreciation on diesels has been and gone. People appear to be pretty pissed about evs ... and are digging heels in in utter disgust and refusal.

I wonder if it is just a few cases... .I saw one 2018 for 40k with 35k miles and a 2017 same spec for £33 which is high but much more "realistic inflation" - so the plan is to maybe just be aware of whom one should purchase from.

I read in the industry press some businesses are enjoying selling fewer and have never made so much money - I don't blame them - but there is a limit like all things -

I am not even sure a "correction" will happen at all in X5s unless ofcourse the gov get cross and tax all SUVs £1000 a year to drive us off the road into Teslas.
