Mercedes Dealership Scam Gets Busted *Video*

I don't know if this has been posted before, but the creator of this video was quoted ~$6,500 by his Mercedes dealership to replace his moonroof, which was said to be FUBAR. So he went elsewhere to have it looked at, and it turned out to be a much different story than what his dealership was telling him. He returns to confront his Service Advisor with a hidden camera.

MB are for ppl that have too much money to throw away. My sister in-law's c class... spent more $$$ than she wanted to in repairs. Depreciation is shitty too.

Probably not his car is out of warranty, so they really do not care.

That was horrible and you can say people do make mistakes, but he brought up a great point. They charge $100+ an hour, they shouldn't be making mistakes like that.

Horrible but truthfully bet it has happened at every kind of dealer you can imagine not only MB.

c'mon dude, don't make a sweeping generalization like that

a Hyundai driver (no disrespect to them, just using them as an example) can say the same about us, no?

No no Canuclion, you are just accepting an untrue fact about Mercedes owners being better and wealthier than us, when it isnt.

We have an S Class (2004) in our immediate family and I will say without a doubt that the service staff at Valley Motors in Hunt Valley MD are the most pompous arrogant bunch of lying SOBs I have ever met.

I'm not going to get into it but I will say that I will not buy a MB because I would be forced to deal with those assholes. The next closest dealer is even further away from me.

wow great job getting them caught on film

problem is that any lawyer with half a brain wont take the case because you cant really tell the intent by the dealership. it could have been an honest mistake - althoughwe all know it isnt; it would be very hard to prove in court that their mission was the bend the guy over

That sucks, but this guy is a douchebag. Who goes through video taping something like this? Kinda ridiculous. Plus using the SA's name was kinda shady. Oh well everyones gotta do what they gotta do.

Russell BMW in catonsville, md

Took my old m3 in for 130k oil service - they changed the oil and checked various things. Now I took this in and the tech I normally went to no longer worked there...so it was a new tech. This guy said I needed some new rubber bushing part located between the engine and the (brain freeze here) rod that transmits power to the rear axle.

Had a mechanic at a local shop that my parents have used for 10+ years take a look at it - nope, its doing just fine. I asked my father about it since he knows about these things a little more than I ..."what? no...that wouldn't fail - not at 130k"

Er...BMW wanted 600-1000$ to replace this part/s.

Needless to say I didn't bother with it. The service advisor said that if I didn't replace it the car may fail to work after a while...power to the rear wheels would cease, etc. Well...you'd think that any good service advisor would pursue the matter for your own safety and hassle - I said i didn't want to bother with it and that was the end of it.

The part/s in question didn't fail.

I smell ripoff.

Yes they could, but Hyundai is not in the same class. If it was Honda and Hyundai than it's different. From what I've read in Consumer Reports a while back, Hyundais have really bad depreciation and resale value.

It's called a guibo and they tend to start failing around 50-60k, depending on your driving style. It's a rubber bushing that connects the transmission and the driveshaft.

However, if you are not feeling any loss of power or any type of noise from your transmission it should be fine. But as with anything rubber, I'd still want to make sure it isn't dried out or cracking. Because if it does go out on you, you won't have any power to the rear wheels and it will seem like your transmission is slipping.

Yes, near the end of the video, he identifies the dealership as "Mercedes-Benz in Vancouver on Broadway and Hemlock." I wonder if any Canadians around that way have any experience with that dealership?

Bingo - thats what it was. Nothing wrong with it either. See...I had already replaced it with another dealer 30k prior to this. It was brand new ...
