2011 Chicago Auto Show = Bullshi@!

Me and a buddy of mine pick a different Auto Show to fly to each year. This year was Chicago, which is supposedly the largest Auto Show (in square footage) in North America.

Boy did it suck!

There were no Exotics there at all! No Ferrari, Lambo, Lotus, Maserati, Aston, Bentley, Rolls, Tesla, Bugatti, etc. The whole thing was geared toward the regular cars that you see on the road every day. That's not why enthusiasts go to auto shows!

What an absolute waste. If you are planning on going - don't!

Same with the Tampa one. Quite the disappointment.

I'm an enthusiast and am planning on visiting the show this weekend to look at cars that I can not only afford, but sit in and touch. While looking at exotics is fun, they are usually staged on platforms or in other areas where you can't get to them.

Lambo, Lotus, and Maserati were at the show last year. Looking at a car 20 ft. away, no matter how beautiful, gets old quickly.

For what it is worth, the official website had a list of exhibitors that you could have referenced before making the trip.

I've been going to Auto Shows for the past 15 years and have never been to a major show that didn't include exotics.

I never thought to look at the list of exhibitors because it's never been an issue.

I have no desire to "sit in and touch" everyday cars.

^ I went this year as well. I was surprised at the lack of exotics as well. Porsche also only had 4 cars.

+1
I like shows to keep me in touch with what new cars are hitting the markets, not dream exotics every 12 year old boy dreams of. The Arizona International Auto Show I went to a couple months back was a perfect blend of a couple exotics roped off, 7series/A8/Porsche I could sit in, and everything for the every day folks. I think I would not have missed the exotics if they didn't show up.

Last year Porsche didn't even attend (a local dealer did). Good to see that they made it back now that the economy is recovering.

Exotics in LA are pretty common. Except for the Mag Mile and LSD in the summer, exotics are not common in Chicago. I would imagine that booth prices at a major auto show are pretty steep, so the exotic companies save their marketing dollars for venues with a higher ratio of could-be clients. Just speculating....

The Montréal Auto Show had exotics and was really big this year. I hear that the Toronto International Auto Show is huge too (currently running).

2010 LA Autoshow didn't have Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Bugatti, etc. But they did have Porsche, Lotus, Rolls Royce, Aston, and Bentley. Lotus one was neat cause they actually let you into the booth, but there was a line to get it.
