My friend had one of these in Korea. I was there in 2008 and rode in her car. It was really nice.

Not sure what the US version is like though.

My family in Korea has one and I have drove it for 1 month.

Comparing to BMW, it is like it has premium + premium package.
Everything's comfort and engine is strong. But definitely not for sport driving.

Yes it does... too bad they didn't have this offer when the iPad first came out. I wonder how many people would have bought the car just to get the iPad

equus is the car of choice for chauffeurs.

i rode in with it with my father and his driver in korea. smooth ride, very comfortable in the back seat, and heavy as hell. much different from a 335i though. dunno why one would be interested in it.

I had a chance to sit in one last year at the NY Auto show. It was nice, but I think it's going to have the same issues that the VW Phaeton had. Luxury car with an "economy" name competing with names such as BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and marketing the vehicle under the Hyundai name. Remember, it is to be named the Hyundai Equus, and even the Hyundai logo is on the trunk.

If Hyundai had started a new separate division called Equus, just as Toyota and Honda did, they could have a chance. Otherwise, I don't see too many people who will shell out 60K want to drive into a Hyundai dealership for maintenance. Or proudly answer when someone asks who makes the car, that it's Hyundai.

For the record, I think that hyundai has come a long way, and are now making some excellent vehicles to compete strongly with Honda and Toyota, but to make this successful in the US they have to do it right.

WTF is wrong with everyone?? Considering this over a 5-series or 7-series???

I had the opportunity to drive one and also sit in the rear. Handling is a JOKE. Seriously horrible. Absolute joke. Loose handling, with heavy body roll even when just accelerating. If you are a driver, you will not like the car.

On the other hand, if you are just a passenger, its fine. The finish, although with "premium leather" and "genuine wood" is unquestionably not the same quality, fit, or finish as any of the other luxury cars you are used to. The rear is comfortable and literally loaded with options, but again, not really a luxury finish. That said, if I were to be anywhere in this car, it would be the rear seat.

I don't understand the car, it is marketing to people who are willing to pay to be chauffeured, but are not willing to pay for premium. Odd market segment.

If you want more details, PM me and I'll tell you how I really feel.

x2

I just took one for a test drive on a rainy sat... even the sales person said it was a passenger's car.... uh wtf 55-65k sticker and its geared more for everybody first besides the driver!

leather is lacking though fit and finish is perfect. headliner sweet. gadgets aplenty.

why would i trade my e90 in for one of these if im the only person in the car most of the time... answer... i wouldnt. they built the car around the passenger and while the driver does have buttons they forgot the most important person.... DRIVER !

ppp

p.s. ask in in a few years and equus revisions later....

not an equis but my wife drives an 09 Hyundai Sonata and that car is great! Handling and power is not a high point but it's smooth, quiet and easy to drive. It also has a ton of leg room in the back. Hyundai builds some good cars. I will say that she has 26k on that car and its never been to the dealer with any problems and I've had my BMW less than a month and its spent one whole week of that time with the dealer service dept. and will probably go back this week!

The Equus is not aimed at the German sedans, it's aimed at the Lexus LS460 and similar luxury cars. It's meant to be driven long distances in comfort and silence. Car and Driver recently did a comparison test with the Lexus and the Hyundai did very well. It's a luxury car not a sports sedan. It was also about 20K less than a comparable Lexus.

I don't think the Hyundai logo is on the car.

^ not going to disagree but hyundai is marketing it towards S class and 7 series too... they just missed the mark. LS460 is a better comparison.

either RT and CD said the car was scary at 120mph where others were firmly planted and stable.

Another point 5/60 full maint and warranty support and 100k powertrain = not too shabby.

Hyundai logo is on the trunk

Also guys there are unconfirmed reports of dealers doing the usual bump on these cars which makes it closer to what its competing against too.

oh and if its a "passenger's" car they better put a LCD in the back for movies , they got dinged for that one by me ( i need signature due to 3 kids)

I like hyundai's and they just need some time tuning it to the NA market.

ppp

p.s. any my wife had a sonata, shame she couldnt keep it together or we woulda purchase another one.... very roomy inside and quite a bit of trunk space, not to mention reliable !

From what I remember seeing it at the Philly Auto show last year, there were no Hyundai logos on the car, anywhere inside or out. I actually wasn't really sure what it was, though I had been drinking for much of the day at that point, damn birthdays kill ya. Looking back at my pictures though I had to be told that it was in the Hyundai section.

Not that I would ever buy one mind you.

If there is any Hyundai discussion to be had on e90post, it's not about the Equus, but about the Genesis Coupe. I won't attempt to draw any comparison between the Genesis and an e9x, but I will say that I've driven the Genesis, and it's not a bad car. Has lots of room for improvement, but not a bad car.
