FIL in CT lost power for more than a week during that freak October ice storm a few years back. He invested $8k in a whole-house, natural gas powered generator. It's been used once since then very briefly during a snowstorm. So it seems investing in a whole-house, natural gas generator is a pretty good guarantee against future outages.

Good luck!

Oh yeah, power is back on.

Was sitting out back by the pool listening to the lovely sound of generator harmonizing from different parts of the lake when there was a huge explosion on the other side of the lake. Then, the lights came on, all around the lake. Then more green transformer flashes from the next grid down the line.

Fingers crossed, it's stayed on so far. Light flickering... just hope it stays on til morning so i can get a shower. Screw that, i'm getting a shower now.

Can't wait to get back home, good thing I bought travel insurance, problem is they are only covering $200 per day, that barely covers the hotel and car rental for my extended stay here in Dallas. FYI Dallas is boring so far!! Is there anything to do here?
What kind of stuff do you like doing! There's the Dallas Museum of Art, the Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas World Acquarium, Trinity River Audubon Center, Uptown for social scene, Northpark Center for high end shopping (plus cool artwork displays like original Warhol pieces,) White Rock Lake to go for a run, out east a couple hours is the Dallas Karting Center with 60 mph karts available for rent, go eat at Pappas Bros if you want to drop your entire per diem on a single meal...

Good to hear, and please know all of us here think you guys are nuts! We pay extra to sleep in an igloo hotel in the winter, but even a thought of a tropical weather and wind makes us all go crawling under our beds.

Back at work in Brickell. I could have worked from home but having two screens makes working much easier compared to only one. We are required to leave no later than 5pm today as there still is a curfew in place so they can clean up the roads. Had to zig zag my way here with down power lines, trees, twigs, debris from jtodd_fl, 1MOREMOD, UncleWede and left over party thongs from ///M Power-Belgium.

Irma was a bad bitch.

I found some gasoline but could only get Super (93 octane). Generator is supposed to use regular. I have a mix of remaining regular and super in it now and it seems fine. Anyone more mechanically inclined than me know of any consequences from using super in the generator (other than overpaying for gas)? At least I can put it in our cars if we get lucky and power comes on soon.

No harm at all. I use 93 in all small engines for my companies.
