A stock M3 spanks a stock 911, 911 owners should save the extra 25 grand or so and just get the M3 then.

$9k gets you 99% of the experience of a 911.
Case in point...

Really?

M4 got spanked (1.4 seconds slower on a sub 1:20 lap) despite having a far better power to weight, and much more hp.

The 991 base is still the better car to drive in every way. Of course the M4 will be faster in a straight, its got realistically about 100 more whp and wtq but thats about where it ends because it certainly doesnt translate to anything but a loss on track. It doesnt steer, grip or handle as well nor is it as much fun to drive. The 911 is a surgeon with a scalpel, a trained sniper, whereas the m3/4 simply are not.

But an M3/4 are worth 80-90K? LOL

You can get a reasonably equipped 991S for ~110K. Is it worth 20-30K over an m3/4, hell yes.

Why dont you read the review of the guy who just compared his m3 to his 991S and said the 991S was the better car in every way and that it was certainly worth 40K over an m3/4.

These comments are so bizarre coming from someone who drives an M3...

To the OP - my buddy daily drives a 997.1 with the EVOMS 620 kit fitted. He says the only downside is that when he starts it at the train station the puf of smoke is a little embarrassing.

Why do you still read his drivel? Just take every single mention of any Porsche and know there will be a WiW comment and skip to the next post.

I assumed you're talking about the E9X M3 when you said the Mustang GT matches/ beats the M3 since no one has tested the new GT350 against the F8X yet.
The E9X M3 spanks the base 911 of the same gen, and runs similar times as the Mustang GT.

So why buy the 911 if the Mustang GT is a better performance car?

To make your point you bring up newer gen cars comparo test, makes sense.

If by the e9x m3 dct spanking the base 997 with PDK you mean the 997 matching or beating the M3 despite a worse power to weight in a straight, then yea LOL.

http://media.caranddriver.com/files/...9-bmw-m3-2.pdf

997 is faster in the 1/4, trap speed is the same, top gear acceleration is much faster, 0-150 mph its faster, 100-150 its faster, has a better top end, and a higher top speed.

If you mean by that the base 997 spanking the M3 on track despite a worse power to weight, then yea again. LOL

http://fastestlaps.com/comparisons/b..._facelift.html

On the track, the 997 base is faster on 6 out of 7 tracks.

The BASE 997 spanks the M3 despite having a signifcantly worse power to weight. Get your facts straight.

Some think different about ultimate GT car and the AMG GT.

Of course, the coupe can be (and will be) very fast around a circuit, but the effortless way it does the Grand Touring bit is just more impressive to me. In that style, the Mercedes feels like the best car in the class – on the track it's one more face in the high-dollar crowd.
Plus everyone knows a proper GT car has the engine in the front.

AMG GT couldnt quite hold its own vs the 991 GTS as we have seen in the review done of the two let alone a GT3 or turbo.

Add ceramics and a few packages and you have an 80-90 K car easily. I've seen some of the verts going for ~100K. LOL A 6 figure price tag is part of the reason why the m5/6 dont sell well...dont see them selling many m4s at outrageous prices like that. I'm sure like the m5/6 they will be 15-20K off MSRP because of it. The e9x m3 verts at one point were going for at least 12K off msrp.

Op, 997.1 or .2 will make a great daily driver. The .2 is a must only if an auto is mandatory, otherwise I prefer the .1 for the motor and huge discount. The ccb are perfect for daily and occasional track, which will last the lifetime of the car. Steel replacements will set you back 5k. Maintenance is on par with any m car if done at an indie. And the puff of smoke on startup could get embarrassing at times.

As for the p car vs m3. I would choose a 997/991 over any m3 any day of the week had it not been for the need for a 4 dr. My stripped down f80 m3 dct was 75k(I don't even have a rear camera!) and most sitting on dealer lots are 80k+. Wish I took a pic of an m4 msrp of 93k with ccb but fabric seats! Didn't see what other options were on there, but I was appalled to say the least.

Oh yeah, at one point I did choose a mustang over the m3. But the truth is, they all offer a different experience and there's nothing I would do differently except buy a warehouse so i didn't have to sell my cars for a replacement.

Any opportunity to boost Porsche will not be passed. It's really bizarre how much this dude loves Porsche. I hope he's being paid, otherwise, its kinda weird. I'm usually not a passive aggressive internet critiquer, but a man shouldn't love a company this much unless it's his own.

Did you drive one with PDK in Sport + mode?

Here is my personal opinion of 991S vs 135. I know a 135 is no M3 but as I said in the post below, you need to drive on the right side of the tach in a 991 for it to come alive.

Any M4 "spanking" a base 911 will soon be a thing of the past. Face-lifted 911 will get a 3.0l Turbo Flat6. Even tuned M4 won't have a chance because the 911 will also finally (for some) be tuneable.

If not many funny comments:

Porsche is really expensive, but so it Apple. Want lower price? Vote with your wallet and stop buying. But that doesn't happen, demand is there even despite high price, so people are willing to pay the price Same goes for BMW, high price, but people are willing to pay. Porsche is actually much cheaper than it used to be 20 years ago. Same goes for Ferrari. Sales units are much higher than they were. Porsche is no more exclusive.

911 is less fun than BMW because you have to push it to the limits for thrill? Funny, because when a GT86 or MX-5 is even more fun than any BMW has ever been, that argument does not count.

The only place the M3/4 holds an advantage over a BASE 991 is in a straight. Anything else, the 991 is superior. Feel, handling, grip, accuracy, planted, sound, turn in, balance, chasis and suspension geometry, ride quality, damping, transmission (either PDK or manual), etc. Its also a far more fun car to drive. And on the track, no contest as the 911 has it in spades. And for about the same price so long as you dont add frivolous options. Mind anyone here, the 991 has been out for 4-5 years now. Says a lot when everyone shoots for it since its the benchmark and its still dominating comparos and best this or best that.

The 991.2 will be fantastic to say the least.

If straight line speed is what youre after then there are better cars for that even though these are plenty fast.

Afaik, I think 991 hit the US shores beginning of 2012. So not that old.

911s make great daily drivers. I DDed my 991 C4S, best car I owned, I also have a 997.2 GT3, but that is not something you want to be in everyday.

Can't go wrong. The tech in the 997 is dated so if you can live with it, then def get a good sorted one.

When I started looking into Porsches about three years ago, I test drove a used 2009 911 TT. Boat load of power and great looking but I wasn't blown away enough to want to buy a still expensive USED car. I guess I expected too much from all the hype I read about the TT before hand.

I eventually bought a new 2011 E92 M3 instead at the time.

what do you guys think about a r8 v10 as a daily driver? prices are going down especially once the new model hits next year with huracan v10 and 100+ horsepower.

the more i look at r8 it seems more reliable to own and easier to use as a daily driver, especially with audi care being an option covering until 75k miles.

would look for a 2014+ of course when they did the lci and introduced the dct.
