992 is special, I'm not doubting it. But give me a break with that market.

I am a died in the wool car guy, absolute car nut and motorsport nut, imho not much worth 100K to me, let alone 350K. I am dead serious. At some point they are just too capable. If tracking, my kill a 350k vehicle? Buy a Caterham or something.
My DD is a 13 yr old Saab station wagon ....i don't need luxury just comfort, which is provides. |

Since you brought them up, R8 V8 gets my vote
It's the only car I've kept for more than 5 years. Just passed 10 years of ownership and it's been a great experience to own. After I added an aftermarket exhaust it's just about perfect.

I tell everyone that my 2021 F23 is better than my 2001 996 C4 in every way except that's not a Porsche. I miss having a 911 but I always felt like one of the poors because I had the cheapest non-Boxster on the market. I'll eventually need a new hard top for year round (i.e snow) driving and I'll look at a Cayman at that point. Sure I really want a new 911 for $100k BUT have you seen how big they are? Just like with the 3 series BMW, older is better.
My suggestion: Pick up a 997.2 with a proper 6 speed if you really want a Porsche. |

I drive past an Aston Martin dealer almost every day. I get teased by whatever cars they park outside the showroom near the street.
I happen to really like the new Vantage. I don't think it photographs well but in person its quite nice. Very low, wide and curvy. 500hp and 500 lb ft torque. That will do fine. |

I'm planning on keeping the Turbo S whenever my GT3RS allocation comes up, just trying to decide If I want to go full retard with it or not. I wanted to do a half mile TTRS build but finding a 2019 is hard right now

I left BMW in 2017. Traded my F80 M3 for a 17 991.2 911S. I loved that car. Moved up to a 2019 991.2 GTS. Loved that car too, but hated all the alcantara and centerlocks.
Moved up to a 2020 911S and it hated many odd things about it. Like not seeing all the gauges. The gloss black interior trim. The shitty home link integration. Then it broke. Buy back. Bought another 2020 911 S (162K) and it made a clicking noise. Drove me crazy and porsche bought that one back too. Im so over 911. Best DRIVERS car Ive ever had. But daily driving one gets old. The infotainment on the 992 is like andriod where it takes 15 menus to get to something. I hated my 992 experience. If I get one again. It will be a 991.2 GT3RS, 991.2 GT3 touring or a 991.2 911R and my garage queen.

One of my friends is obsessed with Astons...I've never had any such attraction. They just seem like old guy cruisers to me lol. In my region it's always that demographic driving 'em.

from what i've heard the vantages are just 'ok'. not great not terrible. the amg gt that it shares a motor and infotainment with is the better sports car.
the DBS is a different beast. the new one is cool but the old one was just perfection.

Wha? These can't even handle 15k miles? Really? I've read the mac forums and they don't seem like that bad unless the electronics go nuts and then you have to go to an independent shop because the mac dealers suck. 15k on a Turbo S is just getting warmed up

I agree. New ones are fine I guess, but those older ones were just perfection. There was no way to top that design, much akin to BMW circa E39 E38 etc.

I've drive a 1.2 3RS, on the track, for about 15 minutes, and I see the hype with Porsche. I was a fan long before I'd ever driven one. After owning my M4 xDrive, I could immediately feel the weight difference. It just wasn't that impressive, in the straight. Shorter wheelbase, corners on rails, and it was a blast, but I just didn't think it was that much more impressive than my M4. The 911 has the status, all day long. But, man, I love driving my M.

I think bucko was being sarcastic re. the 12k miles on the 720. The market is a bit like that though. ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww it's been driven???????? Why?
For comfort, performance, possible daily driver I could not go past a 991.1 GTS. Very sporty in nature but very livable and no turbos to ruin the experience. |

Having driven all kinds of cars over the last few decades, I have come to the conclusion that there really is no substitute.
porsche just makes an overall package that can't be beat a friend of mine had a 997 and a f430 at the same time and he said he grabbed the keys to the 997 more often for pure driving enjoyment, even if the f430 was more of an event in some ways I get bored of cars quickly and so after my first 2014 Cayman S, I have driven all kinds of cars in an effort to replace it and guess what I am back in a Cayman GTS 4.0 and I have remembered what I was missing I think the cayman vs 911 thing partly comes down to how much practicality you need in the car, as the 911 is more practical but as for driving joy, I would say the cayman trumps all 911 variants other than the GT level cars (which win on engine alone really) if you don't need practicality, I would say go for a 4.0 cayman (GT4 preferably if it's for a weekend car) with a manual but if you need more practicality, you can't really beat a 911 Last edited by baege; 05-05-2022 at 07:55 AM.. |

regarding the mileage stuff
the ferrari/mclaren/lambo markets are very fickle with mileage... which is part of the reason many owners don't drive them. After 10k miles many would consider them 'high mileage' unfortunately and prices start dropping steeply. |
