Porsche is my second home next to the BMW Welt. I have been so lucky to have visited these two great museums. In going thru some of my old photos... I thought I'd share some better pics of the Porsche Museum.

I've had the privilege to visit both the new Porsche Museum in Stuttgart and BMW Museum last November..I have to say from a visual and history stand point, the BMW Museum was much better than Porsche. The factory tour, however, was a definitely one of the coolest experience for any Porsche enthusiast. I really want to make it back next year for the other museums, more specifically the Mercedes-Benz museum.

Exclamation New display of secret prototype Porsche's on display...

The Porsche Museum has a new display of ultra secret prototypes from their secret vault. This looks to be an awesome time to go check out the p-museum.

Yes, lots of cool places to visit in Stuttgart of Automotive fame. Here are a few off the top of my head...

Porsche Werk 1 (the first offices of Porsche KG after WWII. Later on Porsche's Race Dept was located here. Today its home for Porsche Exclusive and a VIP service and parts dept. Last time I was inside here... I saw SEVEN 959's... two with US plates(!) being serviced!!! You can always try your luck with the Porsche Gate Gaurd... tell them you need to go inside to order some parts for your Porsche... most of the time he will let you inside!

Speaking of the Porsche Race Dept... the famous picture of all 25 prototype 917's lined up for FIA inspection. In order for Porsche to race at LeMans, Porsche built 25 race cars for sale to anyone who wanted one(or could afford one and knew about them!)... Ferrari cried foul bc there was no way Ferrari could built a series of 25 cars in order to run a homologated race car series.

Today you can STILL drive by this spot and see MANY Porsche's parked on the left side - ready for export to all over the world. Some things never change. Look a little bit up to where this Google "pin" is located. There you will see this parking lot.

Reutter Werk today, just to the right of that Yellow truck. The building is a state landmark, so Porsche can not tear it down. Instead, underneath it Porsche has a huge underground storage and rail system that moves sub assemblies from one factory(werk) to another among the sprawling Porsche Werks. A little trivia... The Reutter Werk building was last used for 928S4 and GTS production. Then the Audi RS2 and MB 500E's were built here in the mid to late 90's. Then Porsche converted the factory to a parts depot.

I was just there in Tuesday, along with the Mercedes museum. Both are fabulous, but I could not help but to put the exhaust in sport mode and hit the throttle a few times in the garage.

In the Porsche museum, there is a great 959 exhibit, with prototypes and one off models of those cars. Gorgeous!

The Prototyp Museum in Hamburg is VERY NICE!! Small but nice! Lots of early Porsche's. It's one of my favorite privately owned museums in Germany.

On your way back South... you really should stop by the PS Speicher (museum)... The PS Speicher has something like over 400 vehicles(no Porsche's, but lots of weird German cars and bikes), mostly motorcycles though(East and West German!), but it's a GREAT museum! Four floors of automotive heaven. One of the largest and most modern museums, that I've been too. I am planning on a writeup as we speak. Trust me, you won't be sorry you took the time to visit the place. Its near Göttingen on the A7 Autobahn.

Do you know the meaning or purpose of the playing card symbols on some of the cars?
(I saw 2: red spades and a black clubs)

I forget why. I know that car was one of a series of cars the factory employees made for Ferry's Birthday. The factory workers had a tradition of creating a special car for Ferry's birthday every five years. And typically the project would take many years to finish. The Austro-Daimler Sascha was just one of these "projects". The old fire truck was another as was the four door 928.

I think the card images were done for "luck". I also think its bc Ferry liked to play cards. The car was presented to Ferry to remember his father's years when he worked for Austro-Daimler.
