Click noise.

Before I start I know the engine ticks under the bonnet but never heard it in the cabin. As engine was reasonably quiet, apart from the dreaded Wastegate rattle.

Until today, I have started to hear the ticking noise in the cabin at standstill and whilst driving under load. It sounds like a really quiet diesel noise (best description).

My question is, is this due to the colder weather or is it due age and mileage (2013 - 76k)? Or is it something to worry about?

Is it just louder as the weather gets colder?

Thank you. Puts my mind at ease. When it's fully warmed it practically goes

I’d like to clarify further for anyone who catches this in the future: These engines operate with extremely high pressure piezoelectric fuel injectors. They are really beefy and may inherently have, or later develop a tick when cycling.

A quick test for anyone is to bring your car up to speed (not in eco-pro!), and listen for the tick while the throttle is applied. You should hear that diesel like ticking, and it should cease when you remove your foot from the throttle and coast at speed. The DME cuts power to the injectors in this scenario, which makes it very easy to verify the injectors as the culprit.

Thanks for reading

That's exactly what I have. Mostly I do short journeys so engine doesn't always fully warm. But when it is the ticking almost disappears when applying throttle etc

It’s one of those things that can drive you a little bonkers, but there is nothing to be concerned about! Hope you are enjoying the car

It seems my car developed this issue too at about ~60K. Normal injector ticking was always present, but now I can hear it in the cabin. It's almost like a leaf is stuck in the vent type of sound. Would replacing injectors help (because it was not audible before)?

I've had this on my car since around 35,000KM. I believe it's normal
