Something like a 328 would definitely make a better daily, but if you have a m3, just drive that. If you really need a dedicated DD, I'd get something completely different (not another 3 series), or get something more sporty than a M3 if you're not going to drive it much.

335d or X5d

I had a 335d until I had to give it to my wife (living in another state), and it was a GREAT car with plenty of power and awesome fuel consumption figures. If you need more room, an X5d would surely fit the bill.

Because you did not mention anything related to excitement, driving dynamics or performance then any Toyota/Lexus will do for you.

Thanks all for the replies, looks like the 328i could fill the void, what do you all think about an Audi A4?
Why dont you DD your m3?

E90 335d. Low key, practical size, easy on fuel.

I'd go with a 335d, or an X5d. Worth the money and great gas mileage. A buddy of mine who's on his second 335d just posted a picture on Facebook the other day showing that he is getting 31.3 mpg with mostly city driving. He also has a lead-ass foot, haha.

Car: 535I
SUV: X5 or the new 2012 Ford Explorer. Seriously, if you sat in the new Explorer, you'd be like, "Wait, this cant be a Ford."

I picked a E90 M3. More practical than our Z3 or my old E36 coupe, and better gas mileage than my M5. Because I love the earth and whatever.

If I lived in someplace that got winter, I'd probably have gotten an Infiniti G37x and beat the snot out of it, but I'm sane and live in a reasonable place.

:-)

I noticed nobody's mentioned the E91 yet - that's my vote, or an X3 35i

I'd normally say 335d, because I love diesel for commuting purposes. But stupid, retarded BMW brings 335d, which is $10,000 more than a 328. So I doubt you can make up the mpg difference in quite some time. So 328 would be better choice. If we had 320d in US, then I'd say get that one...

OK, I just had to do the calculation:

335d gets 36mpg on freeway. 328 gets 28mpg. The price difference between the models is 10k. Premium gas at Shell is $4, and diesel is $4.13. You need to drive ~320,000 freeway miles to brake even...

In terms of city driving, 328 gets 18mpg and 335d gets 22mpg, so you have to drive even more to break even..

Any BMW works great as a DD. Really just depends how much you feel like spending on gas and how many people you need to seat.

wow THIS thread is funny... people recommending high end cars...

OP: if you want DD car? and want a BMW.. just get the base 3 series. Practical

i dont see how a 5 or 7 series can be daily... if you want to show off then get the 5 6 or even 7....

get whatever you can afford

shoot i daily my M3, and when the weekend comes i use my wife car which is a Honda FIT....
