It's an analogy.
A term for people who are obsessed with washing machines?

You going to have to skim harder than because you're overlooking the blatant metaphor.

Definite wash-head here.

On a waiting list for a new German hybrid washer-dry cleaner, when that baby comes I'll be washing my most important clothes to put it through its paces.

Great article and humorous. Also some excellent comments, I recommend reading those as well.

I've seen similar articles (more serious ones) about the latest generation that is not at all into cars the way we are. Certainly, one cannot generalize an entire generation, but overall the parallel is there of how car enthusiasts might be viewed by this newest generation as an anomaly not well understood.

Anyway, it's one of my dreams to build out a laundry room capable of servicing at least 6 washing machines, with space for at least 5 more portable mini-cyclrers (these are portable washing machines which I love in addition to regular washing machines).

P.s. The comments mention some analogies to pricey DSLR's and expensive complicated computer builds and how some of the car guys didn't understand those passions.. Well I'm into all 3 - cars, DSLRs, and computers, so as I read the comments, I was like, hey I get that, what are you talking about? Of course I need that DSLR over the point-and-shoot, and my high end laptop with 3 SSDs, quad core processor, and 32gb or RAM!

While I do understand the need for a DSLR, that much computing power!? Fuck, I have a early 2011 MacBook Pro, 8GB ram (diy'ed that with a corsair), 320gb hdd, and dual-core i5...I don't need much more for entertainment. I'm a console pleb.

I can run 2 VM's with Windows Server/.net and Linux/Python environments with 2 cores and 8GB for each VM, and still have 4 cores and 16GB ram to run 25+ windows/applications including Photoshop/Lightroom, multiple instances of Visual Studio, SQL Server, etc., all doing work all simultaneously, and she never skips a beat!

Edit: Almost left out the most important detail - she (the laptop) has an anodized aluminum shell, in deep bright red, which perfectly matches the interior in my X6M...

Or a binary-head?

Garage List
Wash-head chiming in. Clever but surprisingly accurate article. I only have a small group of friends my age (early 20's) that care about cars. Most are completely content with a stock civic or Camry, something cheap that gets them around. The trend I have seen is that parents are everything. Friends who have parents with nice cars tend to like them as well, kids with parents who drive boring cars care much less. Not even a wealth disparity issue necessarily, one of my best buds back home is 20 and pulling $120k working for his real estate developer father. He couldn't care less about driving something nice. Another buddy is making $12/hour at Costco and probably dumps 50% of his income into his Volkswagen.

Agreed, they don't feel as clean because they are not as clean
