Project Results! E93 N54 335i - PTF E50 Cobb RB Turbo - 1/4 Mile, Dyno, Logs

I decided to build another 335i N54 since the modded E90 (see sig) is the ultimate driving machine wife enjoys it daily now. Over the past few years I have tried many other platforms to fill that niche. CLS550, CTS-V (650hp pkg), E60 550i LCI Msport, X5d (family).
Concluded I enjoy turbo cars, and that BMW feel especially the Msport steering wheel. Also decided to do something different, NO ROOF in AZ! One rule was it had to be auto mandated by my CEO.
I test drove and looked at countless E93 M3, and even made a deal on a VF e92 6MT was veto'd but V8 sound is intoxicating!
Finally narrowed it down to E93 N54 for the daily commutes, inexpensive power upgrades, no roof, and turbo!

May 2014 picked up a local car just off of CPO:

May 2015 1YR UPDATE 38k miles:
Made some adjustments to the tune and car is running great. Feels much quicker and car runs cool even in the 100f heat.
I am changing the oil every 5k and used the new oem twin power oil. No problems so far. Car is driven 250 miles a week same as a tank of e50 will last till the light comes on.
I plan to hit the track in q4 which is prime turbo weather here and collect some data.

New mods:
Rear nitto invos were toast already. Added fresh 255 and alignment justified coilovers.
ST coilovers from VRSF are an excellent buy! Very satisfied with this purchase, and the best aftermarket setup ive run on any car to date. Suspension is firm reduces the dive, squat, roll. Sitting about 1" lower than stock fender to ground. Notible difference is on highway expansion joints the car stays planted and absorbs them. Stock sport the car would skip over and on loaded turns felt the car would almost side step. I have had many cars, and aftermarket setups this is the first that somehow rides and handles better than stock. Absolutely no downside to these, no sacrifices.

Its so good i thought about swapping my e90 HR touring kit for ST. The HR kit is pretty brutal driving everyday. Almost as if there isnt enough damper travel. Great at the track.

The logs and dyno looks good. Looks like stage 2 lpfp works as intended, with only e50, that is some strong pull. But damn E93s are heavy...

Nice !

Did you have to roll your fenders or put in spacers to make the BMW style 95 wheels fit?

Granted weight plays a factor here...

The power vs 1/4 mile time just doesn't add up....

Glad to hear you are happy with the car, but 12.75 isn't RB-Esque #s

I don't see anything wrong with the 1/4 mile. The car is over 4000lbs and only running on 265 Nitto Invo, which isn't exactly the grippiest tires out there.

My xi is probably around 4k lbs with me in it...and if I ran a 12.75 with RBs the car would be for sale driving home.

If OP is happy that is really all that matters. BtW OP your car looks super clean.....but something isn't right

and 2.0 60ft on invo 265 isn't that horrible, better hook would be 1.7 which would put the car mid 12s which is again not where it should be.
its not just the tires, its deff not making 500whp on that 1/4 run

Thanks for posting your review OP. Car certainly has a much better drag result in it with this tuning. Many miss the fact the car was tuned with moderate boost, that the car weighs almost 800lbs more than say a 1 or series and the most impact on your run actually had very high starting charge air temps (if the log of the run is looked at) at 125F before even starting the run, ending the 1/4 mile at 170+F which will have the DME pull a significant amount of timing out of your tune reducing power. If at any time you would like us to update your map let us know and we'll adjust it as per your needs and goals.

This is a Maha dyno, not a Dynojet.

After a few months of searching. i couldnt find another e50 e93 rb car to compare trap speeds.

Great times considering the DA.
All you bench racers who don't understand the external variables in drag racing need to quiet down.

Here's a guy that has been to the track before!

The reason for the drag strip visit was to get data logs, and ensure consistent trap speeds. ET wasn't of any value.

For reference that night we hit the scales at the end of the track:
2011 SRT Challenger 392 470hp 4320lbs 13.2 @ 109mph
2008 E63 AMG 507hp 4320lbs 13.6ish @ 106mph - First time at the track
2012 GTR boltons/cobb 4040lbs 11.02 @ 128mph (tried 4x to get 10.9999)
For the money spent and power gained I am very pleased!

Power gained over stock baseline is +242RWHP/+234RWTQ
Powerband is much wider, car runs smooth, no roof, really enjoying the results!

This will hold me over until the next platform! Hint: PTF tunes them

WOW that car is heavy! Your conditions really did a number on your fun. I am not a drag racer and prefer road course but as it has been mentioned your IATs were just way too high to start out and you were already completely heatsoaked and your 2200 DA did not help it at all. You have a much faster time in there in decent conditions as others already pointed out. That is a beautiful ride by the way.

I've hit the track...go on dragtimes under 335xi, you'll see my car at the very top of the list....it should be 1-3 but the site only lets you post 1 time for the day...11.363 @ 122.3

Believe xi weighs 3814 lbs, factor in 1/2 tank of fuel + my body weight of 240 lbs, safe to say the car is over 4k

OP not bashing your cars performance, as PTF stated your IAT were a bit high to start, and DA didn't do you any favors, so comparing my data to yours is apples to oranges seeing we don't run in similar conditions....But again congrats on the car, and enjoy the Porsche down the road

122mph is quick! My ctsv did 550/550 on a dynojet and ran 121mph, 21"hre mich pilot sp (not a good track setup at all.

This morning on the dyno i know the e50 mix was right on.

At the track i wasnt confident i mixed it right. Not sure if its possible to see if octane was off in the log or not.

So the dyno you attached shows 468WHP. That's quite low for upgraded turbos. Can we see the baseline dyno?

In my sig e90.

Goal wasnt to build an all out drag racer breaking axles and driveshafts.

Clean Oem plus commuter that is quicker, lighter, and lower cost than an m3 e93, and a little extra power than my e90. Hit a couple hpde, and an airstrip event top down cruise to and from.

Yes i can probably get more aggressive in tune taking on more risk spending more money.

If i had lost to some of friends cars id probably be more motivated. Im ok loosing to a gtr its not even the same class or $

Always someone with a faster car, more $, and bench press more.

I feel daily balance of drivability, luxury features, 2+2, fits a baby seat, easy to buckle in with top down and wife can drive it. performance this is tough to beat sub $40k at 30k miles now.

Next upgrade with some mods would be a 997tt, double the budget and cool factor imo!

Goal for posting is contributing info if others are looking flr similiar fun, quick inexpensive, hardtops bc i couldnt find any similar builds with this detail.
