N54 cold start issues

[u2b]http://youtu.be/5Khjb4VkmZ4[/u2b]

Good Morning all, long time lurker needing some advice/thoughts/info.

Not sure what is wrong now. Lpfp and hpfp just replaced on shop diagnosis. Have codes 29F4 and 29F5 for downpipes. The problem codes are 29CF (#3 cylinder misfire), 2B2C (hpfp), 29CC (multiple cylinders misfire), and 0000(not sure what this is). JB4 installed but haven't had it on any tunes in 1.5 months. This my third start of the morning in a row, the 6th start after letting it sit it started up fine. It was 43 degrees F so not freezing and garaged all night, but warming up helped it?

A month ago I had 2A2D (lpfp) and 29CF (#3 cylinder misfire) and a similar start two or three times the last month only after sitting all night. Once it warms up it drives perfect. Plugs done at 46k, I'm at 59k now.

asked for help over here as well, had a couple thoughts: http://www.reddit.com/r/BmwTech/comm...s_appreciated/

I like my shop a lot but been having similar issues over the last month, starting to get frustrated. Again any thoughts are appreciated, I am not a mechanic by any means...!

Can you explain what the problem is? I don't really know what this means:

"This my third start of the morning in a row, the 6th start after letting it sit it started up fine. It was 43 degrees F so not freezing and garaged all night, but warming up helped it?"

What is the problem? rough idle? won't start?

P.S. You have a 635csi?

Turn it off and on quickly in the morning, maybe 2 minutes between each start. I've found that when it starts like this if I let it run for a minute or two, turn it off, then turn it on it is fine....sounds janky but it worked.

And yes I have a 1986 635csi, lots of fun. Love my 135i but the 635csi makes me really smile when I drive it if that makes sense.

Probably an injector. Its probably leaking while the car is off.

I do remember smelling gas when I got in my car the other day after it had been sitting for a couple hours....so the injector itself is bad or something else is keeping it open?

Probably the injector itself something similar happened to me. Dealer diagnosed it as the car was still under warranty. They wound up changing the whole bank 3 injectors and the problem was solved.

Ok, thanks for your thoughts! I think I am going to swap the coils on #3 and see if the problem follows, if it doesn't I'll change the injector....

why do they leak and give problems only at cold?

How fuel additive can help resolve the issue? These leak related to gunk or not?

Nope, just been driving with it. Get a misfire twice a week at the most been probably 3 weeks since my last one right now thankfully.

Shop I took it to convinced me to replaced lpfp, hpfp, and walnut blast the car. Didn't make a difference so I stopped taking it to them. Swapped coils, injectors, spark plugs still not getting misfire consistently on one cylinder to say I have a bad injector or something.

I still think it is a bad injector leaking fuel, but hard to nail down and I haven't felt like spending the money on a new injector yet.

I do need to ensure I have newest JB4 update, and I might rip it out just to see if for some reason it is causing it.

Hope you have better luck then me. It has been annoying to say the least.

Not good idea to leave a leaky injector in the car. Fuel will slowly leak past the piston rings mix in with the engine oil. Fuel can also wash out the oil on cylinder wall. Can cause scoring on cylinder wall.

Sounds like an injector problem but that smoke from the exhaust is worrisome
