Thought I would share this as I haven't seen a definitive success online.

I had to replace my leaking master cylinder and brake booster today, which means the DSC module has to be removed anyways. So I went ahead and retrofit an E-Diff capable DSC module at the same time.


I have a 2006 330i, and I used the DSC and yaw sensor from a 2008 328i. All I had to do was default code the yaw sensor and dsc module to the car(Protool), do a DSC bleed procedure(INPA), and recalibrate the DSC(Protool).

I also had to switch the pins to the new yaw sensor connector as the connector is a different shape, but the wires go to the same pins and are the same colors.

Compared to the open diff, it is substantially better. It is not as good as the cars I've had with a real LSD, but worthwhile. There is much more control and predictably with DTC fully off, and better traction in all modes, especially on corner exit. Corner exit in DTC mode will grip on acceleration, versus before it would power cut fully until there was traction.

I believe post 04/08 build cars can just flash the updated software to their DSC to enable E-Diff without having to swap the DSC, but don't quote me on that

The only con I see is more frequent rear pad changes, but that doesn't really bother me.

It can be done by coding also for earlier cars than 4/2008.
I have a 6/2007 and I used the E-diff for a while until I swapped to a real LSD diff.

It may be the 2006 year that cannot update in that case, as it did not work for me and a few others that I read

How do we know that the ediff coding worked. I'll try to do it on mine. Any pointers to how I can attempt it with the protool?

It's not a welded diff , I have never noticed anything like this.

You'll see an E-Diff option on Protool if successful. You can't update the abs module with Protool though. I don't know exactly how to do it as I didn't need to. There are threads on updating the software

How much different is the new "E diff" to what the car already had? From my experience pressing the DTC button once "activates" e diff behavior. Driving in the snow I can drift all day. Except when the steering angles get too extreme then the car starts to reduce engine power.
I once high centered the car and I could clearly see it acting like an E diff but only in that DTC mode.

So I asked Protool how to code the car to act like it has an Ediff. And they said to to go into DSC module and disable FLR. Which reduces engine power when the brakes overheat.
So now I just have to wait for that first snow fall and test it out in those extreme steering angles.

Night and day difference. Much more grip and predicability in DTC mode. There was no E diff function in DTC before the retrofit on my car.

Interesting, I wonder how much different 2006 DTC modes were for RWD vs. X-drive cars. Because it definitely feels like my car has an "E diff". It feels pretty similar to my brothers e46 m3 in the snow. One year we both had Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2's.
I don't think my tune changed the DTC mode.

I don't know, but if you connect protool and go into coding for the DXC module you will see an option for E-Diff if you have it

Yes, default code both to the car with Protool.

Wanted to note that this is also possible on xDrive cars. I swapped my DXC out for a 2011 DXC unit to fix DSC issues from my manual swap. This added two options for me: Torque Vectoring which I'm not totally sure on how it works, and the eLSD. It seems to be noticeable when driving hard but I haven't tested it too much. My car is an 09/2006 build date, I assume they probably added the DXC functionality the same time they did for RWD DSC units.

Just wanted to check if I have this value. My DSC module seems to be MK60_87.C0F and it has C0F_DIFF_LOCK option is it the same E_DIFF?

Does anyone know more elsd DSC unit numbers other than 6784765 that's compatible with 06' 330i? This exact one is hard to find and really expensive compared to other ones.

i would advise to simply upgrade the DSC software, this should only be done on external charger or very good battery, because when you reflash dsc, it is stopping to send important data to pt-can and wipers began operate at full speed, this consume battery i think
i've got the sportbremse option this way, i've needed it after retrofitting brembo brakes on my 2007/04 DSC with N52B30
