I wouldn't buy either cars for their price. But if I had to choose, I would take the RS3 for it's practicality and I like the hatchback design.

RS3 I love that car. GREAT little beast and good looking too. At the very least, it's not cross eyed.

both are awesome cars. but i'm leaning more toward the exterior look of the 1m.

on the other hand, the practicality of the rs3 cannot be ignored. very tough choice indeed.

@ Footie - man sounds like you are in a wrong marriage. If you love audi so much, why are you wasting your time in a bimmer? Life is too short, go with your heart and get in the right relationship. Just saying...

It's easy to say you love Audi and you would buy it, but when it's time to fork over the $$$ for one...

Agreed. For me, RS3 without a doubt. There's just more to work with in the RS3 and has the practicality to boot. Besides, the 1er doesn't even have a real M engine.

In a head to head, I can see the 1M losing the speed comparisons. Simply because DSG vs. Manual is no comparison.

Audi would have had to majorly drop the ball to let the RS3 lose to a manual 1M of similar power.

Then again, it will depend on the presenter for who wins over all and how much he misses or loves driving a stick.

Yeah, chances are the RS3 will be a bit quicker. Though I doubt it will be as dramatic as the TTRS will be because it does weigh quite a bit more than the TTRS.

Each car will have their fans and I doubt either will have to much problem shifting all they will make.

Always very difficult to talk about Audi and Heart in the same sentence.

Why do you feel that way?

Every purchase I make regarding a car is done with a percentage coming from the heart, after all it's the desire coming from the heart to have a new car, especially so when it's a performance car purchase. But there will always be a certain element of that decision must be made by the head, the logical part of me that picks a car I know I can drive with confidence and plays to my abilities, especially when the majority of the time it will be driven on the road, what ever the weather has to throw at me come rain or sun.

Look at the recent comparison test of the 1M and TT-RS, the 1M won because the reviewer felt it's qualities of being a challenge made for a more exciting experience and journey on every occasion. I can fully see his point, after all he has decent driving skills and can probably rise to that challenge without it's rwd chassis causing him too much trouble to control and for those that are of similar ability and opinion then the 1M is rightly the car to chose, but for those that know their limits and don't want the unpredictability of the tail stepping out and just want their car to play to their skill levels, flatter if you like yet still be as quick if not quicker then the TT-RS or possibly the RS3 might be better suited.

You see, head and heart must be balanced when choosing a new car.

Then why are you driving what you driving now? Doesn't sound like your philosophy worked too well when you made your current purchase. Sounds like buyer remorse to me

seems like you have an M3 in your garage. I don't get it. you drive one of bmw's arguably all time greatest car and somehow it seems you are not satisfied. don't get me wrong, I am not loyal to any brand but I think it is pretty obvious audi is yet to make something that can match the M3 in price/performance category. my previous car was a B6 S4 and I loved it but somehow it couldn't deliver the sheer driving excitement I am getting from my 135. yes it looked better and felt more luxurious but when my lease was up I wanted to try something new. I test drove e46 M3, Z4Mcoupe and a CPO e92 M3. all great cars but I finally made my decision to go with the 135 simply because the cars massive low end torque was super addictive and more practical than any of the M cars I had driven earlier. frankly in order to really enjoy the full potential of the M cars you would need to wind that engine way up and honestly driving on the streets that was just not going to happen with some serious consequences for my driving license. I mean everybody is entitled to their opinion but coming from someone who drives a M3 just doesn't make sense. the grass is not always greener on the other side. appreciate what you have and if you are thinking about an upgrade you should consider a slightly used audi R8 and nothing else imo

I would personally take the 1M. I love the look and feel of the 1-series coupe, especially the M. The tidy dimensions matched with that m-diff will make for a lot of fun

However, I wouldn't want to bump into a RS3 at a stoplight...

Well I no longer own an M3 and yes it was a brilliant car, but I couldn't live with the frantic nature of it's brilliant engine which required too many revs to get the pulse racing. After it was an Jag XF which in my opinion has been one of the finest cars I have ever own, then came an S4 Avant which in my humble opinion is a better DD performance car overall than the M3. Presently it's a Cayenne but it's due replacing in August.

You really need to pay attention when following my ever changing garage.
