The new Genesis is on dealer lots

And it looks fantastic from every angle. The proportions are very muscular and sporty. The front and sides are superb.

The interior looked great also. I was not able to sit in it / unlock it. Giant panoramic sunroof and there appeared to be lots of space (bigger than a 5 series?)

This was a 3.8 AWD and fully optioned for $52k sticker (gulp!). The option packages aren't cheap. The warranty is a nice selling point if buying.

Anyone seen or driven one?

A 52k Hyundai. That's a tough sell to me . . . There are a lot of cars you can get into for that.

Yup, and even though they are making a 1000 times better vehicle than they once did, and I have rented a few here and there while on vacation and I will say they do ride nice, seem very well made, have lots of features and come with a great 10/10000, it's still hard to open the wallet for a 52K Hyundai..

I'd never spend anywhere near 52k for a Hyundai because of the fact that well it's a Hyundai. Also personally I don't like Asian cars test drove the Genesis coupe in the past and it just felt weird to me. The fact that my family always owned German cars must come into play about this stuff.

Over 50k for a Hyundai? I have test driven the Genesis Coupe 3.8R, it didn't handle well, the engine played hard to get, the transmission was lazier than a fat pensioner, and the interior was total garbage. I'd prefer the interior in a US Domestic car 100x over.

maybe one more generation. The former chief of design at Audi is now Hyundai / Kia president. I'm expecting good things to come from that company..

Go look at the car before you hate is all I'm saying

I'm not suggesting its worth 52k, but it is on another level from anything they've done before. I think the fanboy reaction is funny when any of the lesser competition step up their game

Mind you I'm probably buying a $46k M235 in late summer

Nice, I've been wanting to see them in the metal. The latest Genesis and Sonata are giving us a look into the company's new design direction, and I have to say that I'm happy with their new look. The latest group of cars did the trick by putting Hyundai on the map with out-there styling, but I'm of the opinion that the language is simultaneously too over the top yet derivative at the same time. These new models look balanced and Germanic to a degree. They should age better as a result.

By the way OP, this is unfortunately not the forum you'll want to post to if you're looking for rational, unbiased conversation.

There is a new Genesis a few houses down from us. It looks really nice, and actually quite sporty. I'd definitely drive one if I was looking for a somewhat generic DD. All that said, I still think 52k is really a stretch.

I'd tend to say most of the responses were rational, a couple not so much. I don't see so much fanboy as wallet conscious. As of 2013 the brand was not worth spending any money on IMO. I cant see how that would change drastically in the span of a little over a year. I'll be looking at them again come 2015 or 2016.

Actually they fvcked up and didn't follow lexus formula.
They didn't create a separate luxury brand.
They are selling the car alongside $14k accents.

Genesis coupe used the same ZF 6HP19 automatic that BMW used in all of its 6 cylinder cars for the last decade or so.

Maybe so. Personally until this new AT BMW is using, I felt that was garbage as well. Also, the programming used is different, but nice try.

Not sure anyone really ever laughed at Lexus, they just catered to a different crowd. They have always done the luxury thing VERY well and their cars were damn well worth the money if that's what you wanted.

They seem to have swiped the grille design straight from the Mazda 6 which has been out for a couple of years.

I sat in one at the DC Auto Show. The public's general reaction consisted of "This is a Hyundai?!?!". The interior is very nice. To be honest, if you sat in one , had no idea what kinda car it was and were asked to guess how much the car is worth, you'd guess much higher than what the car actually stickers for. So if you're looking for a comfy highway cruiser, it's probably worth a look but since we all drive Bimmers, it's unlikely that any of us would like how the car actually drives.

If that's the case, the real lesson is that they really need a spinoff, higher-end badge. VW had a very tough time moving the Phaeton for this same reason.

OP....wrong place to ask, most on this forum lean toward the enthusiast side of the driver profile....I'd venture to say that a reasonable portion of the general public would probably say otherwise...value for the money is a powerful thing... while its a bit hard to say value and 52 large in the same sentence but when you stack it up next to its competion then its makes more sense....hell some folks in this forum paid more (in some some cases substatially so) for their E90/F30 non-M 3 series......to me its a good looking car with a compelling price point....think where a base 5 series starts, 50k with the N20 and no packages....really? I take the loaded 3.8 Genesis AWD in a heartbeat..
