MC is Home.

Google says 400 miles @ 6 hrs 40 min....great news.

Is the Blue Bomber an addition to the Redlands fleet or bound for Santa Cruz??

She did it in a straight seven hours with three stops... (King City, Lost Hills, Lebec). Middle Child is a driver!

I don't know who will end up with it at this point... MC is going to live off campus next year, so will probably need a car. But The Baby will be a freshman somewhere, so may need it more. Or not at all if living on campus (hopes to get into Scripps, which I in turn hope to be able to afford).

I want to get it running well enough that there will be no expenses or drama for whomever ends up with it... so about nine months to make that happen!

You should have stopped by in the central valley! You probably took the I5 though. We are off the 99.

Maybe I should change the car name from Blue Bomber to Blue Baby!

Congrats

I'm leaning toward finding another E91 with mine hitting 327k miles now.

Also considering a 2007 - 2009 X5.

Not sure I'll ever catch him now that I'm teleworking 2 weeks a month, my mileage is down to around ~1200 miles a month.

How's the GM transmission at 122k miles? Mine shifts like crap when it's cold.

Sounds like time for a filter/fluid change and a reset.

PS don't forget to pull/replace the filter seal.

Fluid, filter, gaskets and bolts were replaced a few months ago.

And definitely agree on the alarm... do E91s have the same alarm sensor as E90s have? Where does it go without the dome light housing?
You might want to pull a few panels to make sure the alarm wiring is present. Especially where the siren is mounted in the rear wheel well. BMW put all the wiring in the pre-LCI models for accessories... but notoriously started to not to on LCI models.

I was told not to unless the seals were replaced etc

It doesn't have solenoids but those crappy check balls.

Anyway I don't want to hijack the thread.

Yes, exactly! Kind of an over-engineered delicate part that goes bad. Nice to see it in good shape!

It's 100% on my to-do list. It's showing the 578E wear code... hopefully not the weak link here. What is the filter seal though? Is that the gasket shown here, or something else?
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...ve-24117593565

Initial once-over shows the radiator is shot as well, so I'm going to need that and hoses. Actively leaking at the upper hose wall. Not happy to see that after MC drove 400 miles across CA solo!

What it needs so far:
-Trans service
-Radiator
-Hoses
-OFHG
-VCG
-Accessory belt
-MMF
-Thermostat (2EF4 code) & water pump (proactively)
-Door gasket
-Hatch struts
-Three panels of clear coat/paint repair

I'm also worried about the FRM... it's showing both brake lights and both DRLs being out... does that sound plausible, or more likely the FRM is going bad? Brake lights work when pressed, so??? Lots of codes, but here's the summary on the CIC:

Battery was replaced "One or two years ago" but I checked and it wasn't registered. Too late to do now, or should I register?

Guess I know what I'm doing the next few weeks!

If the E91 LCI is anything like the E90 LCI (wife has one) the damn LED brake lights are notorious for failing. I believe BMW finally made a replacement for the originals. DRLs are also constantly going out on hers.

I heard about that. The LCI e90s had rear DRL on at all times. I disabled mine; looks stupid and annoying in a bright day.

So Occam would say that they really are simply burnt out!

It is an early-early LCI car, so they've been on for a while!
