Are dealers responsible for the paint damage?

I took my old 99 jetta for some maintenence service at the vw dealer and cost me $800. When my parents drove my car back to home, I found out the paint on the hood is damaged (size like bigger than my hand). The paint just came off. I don't know if dealer will responsible for it. They probably deny it was their fault. what should I do? lucky it is not my BMW.

My 335 got a chip in the paint and was bubbling around the chip on the front bumper. I took it to the dealer and got it covered under warranty. Good luck with VW.

Probably Not, Hard spot for the dealer to damage... I'd look into other sources for teh damage.

Dealers are responsible for any damage inflicted on your car while it is in their possession. When I brought my car in, they did an inspection and noted any dings, scratches, etc, before they accepted it.

A dealership has custodial responsibility while your car is their care, or the care of anyone they sub-contract.

A good practice is to always have someone from service (preferably the service manager) inspect the car with you when you drop it off, and again when you pick it up. Any visible damage should be noted in writing. This protects both you and the dealership from false claims and arguments.

Without this, it will be a matter of integrity, and not too many people have that anymore.

Since you probably do not have any visual inspection done before you left you car at the dealership....good luck proving that they did it. And your parents already left the dealership...hard to prove that the damage was done while you car was in for service

It was on his Jetta, not the Bimmer.

I doubt the dealer will accept responsibility for this, but it never hurts to ask, so good luck.

you have to report this before leaving hte dealership, otherwise, it's just your word against theirs.

the only way the dealership is responsible is if damaged by them or paint defects.

I went back to the dealer today and showed him about the paint. He said he will take care of it. I am very happy about it.
