Too many different BMW models?

Hey,

Does any one else on this forum feel that BMW is releasing to many cars?

I liked it when bmw had just the 3, 5, 6 and 7. Now there are so many different classes and models to pick from. I know all the other luxury brands are going this way but it seems like to many models are being released.

Would love to hear what you guys think. For the members who love to talk smack, please don't turn this thread into a useless thread. I'm simply just trying to see how other member feel about all the models and classes being released.

Thanks!

I felt like there was too many cars in the E90. There should be 2-3 3 series. Not a ton of different models. Call them the same thing, use trim denomers like "LE" and such instead. No one cares you have a 328 vs a 330, nor do they even know what it means. It's just numbers to them.

Remember, as bimmer folk we know what all these number mean, but average Joe civic driver doesn't know. He just knows "BMW is expensive and nice, me want". And there's always the $ spent = horsepower theory most sheeple seen to follow. BMW = fast in most people's minds.

That's why my 335 is debaged. Only an enthusiest knows what a 335 is, and they can identify it without the numbers. To anyone else it's just a 3 series.

BMW has changed into a volume brand. They want to sell as many cars as possible so they will make as many models as possible to target as much people as possible.

Look at merc and Audi. We need to keep up to compete.

Its marketing, price and competition. If all luxury brands stuck to a primary line up of SUV, Coupe, Sedan, High End Luxury Sedan and Performance Coupe they would have it covered. Maybe a convertible for the coupe and performance coupe but as long as they keep increasing their lines so will the next one. Porsche is a good example of a company that does not do this. They do performance packages of each line and only have mainly one car in each category and they do each one very well.

One of the reasons why resale is so low.

This^ - But I blacked out my 335i badge instead of removing it, and the roundels... When I buzz past the sheeple, all I want them to know is "Black car, fast". Nothing else descriptive.

I'm hating that. Right now a 2007 S4 is worth way more then a 2007 335.

Owning and working on Audi's and BMW'S I can easily say the bimmer has a MUCH high build quality. The modern Audi's are nothing but a VW with a bit more plastic on them.

That and owning a B7 S4 is suicide. The 4.2 V8 is complete crap, the timing chains are prone to catastrophic failire. It makes the N54 look like the best motor ever built.

Not only that, have you seen this one yet? WTF are you doing, BMW? Turning into Kia?

changing the names doesn't make any more BMWs. Yes the new designations are pointless as everybody will just think of the 2 as the new 1 and the 4 as the 3 series coupe but whatever. If I were BMW a 4 series would actually have to be a series (larger or different platform than the 3) not just a 3 coupe with a 4 badge slapped on it.

Exactly. When I read about the new 435, I'm like - wait a minute, that's just a new model year of my 335xi. Virtually the same features, same exact body, just more gadgets and an option for a higher output engine. Same engine actually, just a different brain box.

I agree with you. Mines debadged aswell and the bmw folks will know what it is.

I remember the days when my uncle had a 330 and it was like rare and unique. I'm talking like 8 years ago. But now there a just a new model being released ever so often. Would love to see bmw go back to releasing a few models where there more rare and unique.

I understand why they are releasing more but that means the brand is becoming a more of common car.

335s are fairly rare. Not many bmw folk buy them, hard to justify the cost I guess.

I love that my car is a fairly rare color, I've had M3 owners comment "sweet color!" To me. No one seems to know what it is magical blue silver green is the best way I could describe it haha.

At least it's not like Toyota and Lexus, Honda and Acura, etc....

BMW is changing, not so sure I like it!

We didn't "order to build" my wife's 325i, but it came with the $50 decal delete option. Can you believe that, they charge $50 bucks to not put on the rear decal!

In a way it's paying them to reduce advertising. I mean, easy for you to peel it off and resell the numbers, but BMW wants people to know exactly what you have, and they want you to pay a premium if no one knows.

It seems stupid, but it's basic business.

I think the reason for this is because Audi has a1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 then same for S and RS haha Audi has way too many cars lol.
But yeah BMW has to keep up with the competition

Their line-up is definitely getting a bit congested for me. I don't mind the expansion if it's serving a purpose. But the 4 GC, for instance, seems to provide too much overlap with a standard 3-series sedan. I think they'll start to see sales spread thin... and developing new models comes with overhead. So unless you're opening up significant new opportunities by adding models to the line-up (net new sales), it'll eat into profit.

That said, BMW is doing just great financially right now, so they're probably willing to take some risks.

The days of feeling exclusive for owning (or for many of you leasing) a BMW are long behind us, and we're just as common as a Honda Toyota or Nissan out there.
BMW did what they had to do to survive in the market- BMW, I ain't mad at cha!
