Bet you didn't know your 335 could do this...

I used to have a hitch on my 335 so I could pull my motorcycle around at times when I needed to. Then I needed to move to DC.
So in moving to DC, I needed to move most of my stuff to Reno before I left for the big trip. Well what to do, I can't haul the 335xi on a dolly, Uhaul wouldn't rent me a trailer for a one way trip. So here is what happened.

Yes I drove a 335xi, with a double axel Uhaul behind it, almost 500 miles. It towed it like a champ, no shortage of power there at all. Although at about 70 MPH the trailer would start to drive the car, versus the other way around.

So I bet you never though about hauling a few thousand pounds with your 335, but if you do. Now you know you can.

I did that with a Honda Civic DX from Colorado to California through the Rocky Mountains. Granted it was with a smaller trailer. I thought I was going to die.

Does that compromise chassis stiffness?

It seems most of you guys don't realize that people in Europe tow with their BMW's and other sedans/hatchbacks all the time. A trailer hitch was even an option on the European model 3 series. Even searching on this site turned up the towing capacity specs of the 335:

"from the European brochure, it looks like the max tongue weight for the factory hitch is 165lbs (75Kg) and the max total weight is 1650 lbs (750Kg) without brakes, or up to 3750lbs (1700Kg) with trailer brakes."

With that in mind, an occasional tow is not going to destroy your car like some of you think.

Wait didn't you have a thread about having to give up the 335 and your pops messed up your bike? Why would you be bringing your car to DC if you had to give it up and drive a moped...

I is very confused.
