Question How Much To Give As Wedding Gift (Under My Circumstances) ?

my best friend's sister is getting married and i was invited to the wedding. how much would you give as a gift given my situation?

me and my friend have grown up together from middle school and really are best of friends. his sister getting married ive only met once during highschool for a farewell dinner before she left to cali for her career. the only reason i got invited to the wedding is cause she knows im best friends with his bro. i never spoke to her since that farewell dinner.

so how much would you guys give?

pick something off the registry. I don't know your financial situation, but I make an effort to not give something that I would not want to recieve.

Is it at an expesive hall?
How much do you figure she is paying for you to be there?
Lets say you cost her 80$ Then you should give about 150 imo

What's with all the $100 isn't that kind of cheap? I mean, weddings now days arnt that cheap. Most likely the cost of you being there is about a $100. If not way more, depending on the kind of wedding. I unno I say $200 at least if you have your own income.

Bring a blank check. If you get there and it's a cash bar or some BS, give like $75 a head. Open bar and good food, I would go at least $100 for a single.

are you serious?! that way out of line.
Customary is 70 dollars per person. Though most people tend to be cheaper than that....at least at my wedding.

This varies GREATLY by location. At some weddings I've been to, $100 or even $200 a head would be almost insulting.

Gift should cover the cost of your plate. KoJ brought up a good idea to bring a blank check. Fill out a card and bring a blank check. Fill it out in private after you have assessed the situation.

It's your best friends sister. I would be generous to anyone in my best friends family, because I look at him as if he were my family. However, to each their own.

In other news, I am working on a list of things you will eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The list will also include what clothes you will wear and how to wear them, the next car you intend on buying and all applicable options. I have also determined when, where and who you will be marrying and most importantly where you will be living and how much you should spend on your first home.

Just trying to save us all some time...

70$ is bloody cheap
especially when it is someone who OP considers his best friend
if my best friend got married, he'd get 500$ minimum

Maybe it's asian thing but I give minimum of $100 per person on any wedding I go to.
If venue is the fancy one, I would pay $150 just to cover the food cost.
If wedding is of my good friend, I pay $200 minimum and $300 if I'm going with my wife.
And for my best buddies, I always pay $500.
It's all about come and go. I paid $500 for my best buddies and they all paid back on my wedding + gifts.
When I was arranging my invitations, I didn't even bother to invite anyone who weren't close because I know they wouldn't even pay up their meals which were like $130 per person.

For your case, I would pay $300. At least that's what my brother's friends paid me at minimum.
