Student Loan With Bad Credit?

Long story short, I need $10K for school asap but can't get a loan because my credit is in the shitter after someone got ahold of my credit cards and stuff. There isn't time to get my credit repaired before the money (lodging, meal plan, tuition, books are included) is due on the 20th (this monday) and I could be left out in the cold if I can't get a loan pretty soon. Any help would be greatly appreciated

sell your M3 or ask money from your parents or max out your credit cards till your credit is fixed and the loan office can give you money.

the M3 is dead, i need to change that. and i only found out a couple of weeks ago about my cards being used by someone else so the only card i have now has a $500 limit. plus, my parents were hit extremely hard by the economy and really don't have anything to give me (even if they were still well off, i wouldn't want to borrow from them unless i absolutely have to)

the other option is to sell yourself as a male gigglo or risk it all at a casino to pull that kind of cash.

Do you think you could find a cosigner with decent credit? If so, check out private educational loans. Pretty much every major lender has them and the credit standards are lower than say a car loan, etc.

Go to your school's financial aid office, explain your situation. That's the first thing you should do - they may be able to give you an extension if you're nice and plead your case well.

+1 on cosigning- get your parents to either take out a loan in their name or cosign a loan with you. I had a friend in a similar situation as you (someone destroyed his credit by getting ahold of his bank PIN number), and he ended up having to get a loan with the help of his parents. He still can't apply for his own credit card even though his credit is otherwise perfect and the incident happened two years ago, although he hasn't had trouble with securing school loans.

I hate to say it, but you really left things way to late. You should have already secured the loan way before now (before your credit card was stolen). Your best bet is talking to your school now. Good luck

Yea, go talk to your Schools Financial aid office. Most Universities will give you a "Fee Deferal" and delay your payment based on your financial situation, thats what they did for me. Just talk to them and most likely they will do something

Wow, you are just now figuring this all out. Yikes. Good luck, loans and stuff for large amounts of money usually take a while, not really much you can do about it except the loan deferral stuff others have mentioned.

Don't rush into anything that is going to cost you more $$$ or higher interest in the end. You might need to take a semester off to allow yourself time to make a solid plan and fix your credit. It sounds like you are commiteed to your education so if you take off a semester I am sure you will return. If you pay for all three credit reports http://www.equifax.com/compare-products/# make sure you get the dispute online option. This will allow you to challenge the fraudulant charges on your cards and have them removed from your credit report. The beauty is that they do all the work...not bad for $39.99. I did this when I had some erroneous medical bills on my credit report before I secured a mortgage loan and it was fixed in less than two weeks.

If your credit is really shot, how do you expect to get a loan?

Your only route is to have someone do it for you.

Try having a family member go to a local credit union - some of them allow you to borrow against your car (they put a lien on your car) and print checks on the spot.

At my old position with Wells Fargo Financial, we were allowed to loan up to 160% of the car's value.

Well done to Wells Fargo and similar companies. Yes, its companies like this who acted in a fiscally irresponsible manner with money that wasn't theirs to begin with and the stupid clowns who took these loans (who probably couldn't save a dime if their life depended on it) that helped the U.S. get to where it is now.

Of course, the solution to getting out of this mess is as simple as printing more money. Problem solved right? No worries, no responsibility will be taken.

It is these times that I'm glad our banks didn't go down this route.

Lending 60% more than the value of a car (a depreciable asset which I'm betting depreciates a heck of a lot faster than the negotiated loan amortization payments) - that's insane.

btw - not calling Quick6EF out - he was just an employee and if he didn't lend it, someone else in that bank would or another bank would.
