Bought a 2013 FR-S the first week they hit US dealers, enjoyed 50K miles of CA living, backroads and a trackday. Sadly one does not suit my current needs

It is. We are looking to move back toward more fun roads in the next couple of years. Not really anything here in OKC.

So in two months I've only put about 425 miles on it.

Scheduled the week before Christmas to have the suspension install and alignment, catback, and wheels done. It's going to look awesome.

Car was dropped off at the shop this morning. Hoping it will be all buttoned up by tomorrow afternoon. In reality I can't imagine a pro shop not being able to handle it in two days since that's what they scheduled it for.

Someone had that issue in a 135i. I remember reading it on here. Point and shoot were fine but corners were embarrassing.

Not that bad. And fits within their suggested wheel widths.....not like I'm putting a 215 on a 10" haha!

18x9.5 with 245/35 Continental ExtremeContact Sports. I would have preferred a 255/35, but then that means trimming the inner rear fender. Since I'm happy with how the wheels look on the car (love the subtle concavity), I'll be looking for a quality shop to handle that for me sometime this year.

Then studs and play with spacers and ride height a bit. This is just the starting point of getting it exactly where I want it.

Car looks good but you've hit a real sore point with me. The silver edge on black wheels shrinks the wheel imho, each to his own though. Glad you got it before xmas so you can flog it over the holidays.

I was iffy on it to begin before I ordered them, but it grew on me because it breaks up the black-on-black between wheel and tire.

Test drove a ‘23 BRZ yesterday with just 9 miles on the odometer. Dealer said it was sitting for over a week bc everyone wanted the auto (wtf?). The STI short shifter felt really great and mechanical. No notchiness at all unlike my old car. BMW needs to take notes.
I had a real issue with the poor throttle response and low sensitivity which made it hard to throttle blip. Do you notice it at all?

I agree, what doesn't come through in the pictures is the wheels are metallic, so they have a bunch of great metallic flake.

I had a first gen, I haven't noticed what you're talking about.

My personal opinion? It's auto journalists trying to find something to write about (and I have a journalism degree). I know there is some confirmation bias on my part, buy I've owned and driven a lot of cars.

If you want an affordable, fun to drive car, it's this or a Miata. I got this one, because I'd already had 4 convertibles.

loved my 2014. but it didn't suit my needs as a daily (bad stereo, rattles, nvh, a 6th gear thats doing like 4000rpm at 80mph). if i didn't drive the highway so much i'd love a new one.

Subaru of America, Inc. I know you are aware of this but when were you planning on doing something about it? How many warranties were you going to deny over petty mods and “abuse”. If you have not realized by now this was a common issue in the FA24 in the BRZ and GR86 and out of curiosity we started some digging of our own to see. Our red car’s pickup was clogged badly but we had John drop off his 2022 WRX for confirmation and more of the same. The oil pans are globbed with sealant and the excess is finding its way into the pick up tubes. The header must be dropped in order to get the oil pan off. You can not remove the pick up without taking the entire front timing cover off either so we are going to be gently removing what we can on this car for now.
This is beyond the BRZ/GR86 now and if you have an FA24DIT equipped vehicle I would suggest making a big stink about this to Subaru so they do not try any funny business in the future and push for a recall because im sure like the EJ25’s, they are hoping you run it right outside the warranty window so you could be left with the bill.

Yeah, I saw that yesterday. I'm going to talk to my dealer about it before I take it in to have the oil changed at 1k miles.

It's almost like Subaru intentionally designs their performance motors to blow up.

EJ25 turbo variants - Rod bearings and ringlands. Short block replacements are so common in stock and modded WRXs/STIs. Dealers stock short blocks like oil filters.

FA20 turbo - LSPI which leads to destroyed pistons and hammered rod bearings.

FA20 NA/FA23 turbo and NA - Excess RTV clogging pickups which leads to catastrophic oiling issues.


I consider myself lucky that my Stage 1 2012 WRX didn't didn't blow up in the 3 years I had it. I made damn sure to never go full throttle below 3500rpms in 3rd and above gears.

We have had a number of Subarus in our household including a 98 Legecy GT wagon, 2007 Outback 2.5, and currently a 2015 Outback 3.6r (son's car, soon to be daughter's car) and they've all been very reliable. We got REAL lucky that our 98 LGT wagon never needed head gaskets. Not sure how we avoided that in 100K miles of driving on the stock gaskets.

Considering the new ones are underrated, I'd say 100hp/liter NA is pretty decent while meeting current emissions standards.

Dramatically more strict then when the E30 M3 EVO was doing it.

It's nice but not super impressive considering it's 2023 and taking into account all of the advancements engine component suppliers have made, plus having direct injection.

My overall point stands that they have struggled mightily with building reliable engines over the past 30 years even in their vanilla cars. BMW has too, but you get a little more sizzle for that in exchange usually.
