2015 Mustang a Disappointment

Not sure how many of you have driven the 2015 Mustang GT, but I was really disappointed. My wife was thinking she wanted one, so we went out last night to drive it. The first thing that hit me when I sat in it was that the hood goes on for a country mile. It really reminds me of the big 71-73 cars. Plus it is really flat and wide. Instantly put me off. The power is decent, but comes on subtly and is not "thrilling". The 6-speed feels a bit sloppy and the clutch catches at the very top (annoying). The interior is better, but still feels a bit cheap to me, especially the toggle switches (silver plastic, not billet). It just feels really bulky to drive. Being a big Mustang fan and initially really liking the looks, I was pretty let down. This is not a "bash american cars" post as I am a big Mustang fan. I was just really unimpressed. My M "feels" better to me in every way (amazing for a 6 year old 64K car). It felt good to get back in it and drive home...

I agree with this. I've had some 5.0 mustangs, lexus is-f and a mitsubishi evo 9 and nothing compares.

My most recent car was an E46 M3 and now the E90 M3(because the family is getting bigger and I need 4 doors) and I'll likely never drive another non-M the rest of my life and I'm fairly young. There's just nothing that does everything so well, it's the best of all worlds.

It's a luxury high performance car with decent utility. What else do you need?

Not to mention, extended fox red interior on alpine white is sexy!

Kind of agree and its sort of a shame as I would like to drive other cars but as op said my 5 year old car feels better than most new. But these BMW are gonna make me broke!

Saw one "in the wild" for the first time on the highway, and it honestly doesn't look all that great either (to my eyes) - lost some of the attitude it had before.

But I've never been a Mustang guy...

Well the Mustang is about "bang for a buck" so you should expect it to not be too appealing from someone that drives a luxury brand. Real talk! The E9x interior isn't that impressive, compared to it's competitors.
I do agree, when after driving a M car?! It becomes difficult to drive something else within it's class or lower! Lol

Been a long time mustang fan after owning several Cobra's, but I agree the new mustang is definitely not great in the looks department. However, I am waiting for the GT350 or whatever they decide to call it.

Agreed. Was following the 15 gt closely when I decided to get my M. Went down and checked one or yesterday in the metal. First thought was that the new premium interior was spot on. Aside from that it left me cold. Looks ungainly next to the e92 with the rear being particularly chunky.

I agree with the second post in this thread. The m car, specifically the e92 m3 has ruined me. I can't see myself straying to another car now. It does everything so well..... and even the new f8x m cars have a new flavor that I could get into. Every generation of m3 does it well in a different way. Its a great thing bmw has going.

Agree with your take on the test drive. I went and drove one as well and while it was fun and the track apps were good to play with, it still didn't blow me away.
That said, as others have pointed out the cars really aren't in the same class/segment. The M3 (new) is priced far and above the GT and therefore one should expect greater performance.

Used E92 M3 is about the same price as the new GT premium though, so at that point there is a decision to be made...

I actually have never had and M, but had an E36 328i that was my favorite car to date. In the market now and the E92 M3 really has my eye.

Interesting opinions in here. I'm going to keep my voice light only because I'm aware that my bias toward the car has grown over the past few months. Dimensionally speaking, the car's much bigger than your E93, but it's also down a solid 250lbs by comparison.

I'm confused, if you're a Mustang fan, have you ever driven any of them in recent years, especially the last gen S197? I drove an S197 GT TP and it felt like there was a wall in front of me thanks to the dash height and poor seating position (lack of scoping tiller and poor seating overall). The S550's dash brow felt so much lower, and the one pronounced factor was the twin ridges and the unusual bulge in height toward the midsection.

It was definitely sizeable compared to my E92, but I found the car to do the cliche "shrinks around you as you drive it" thing. I've yet to drive a car in the spec I'm looking for: V8, 6MT, PP, etc., but I did get to mess with the various features that come with the premium package. I thought the toggles felt fantastic in terms of actuation and couldn't tell if they were alloy or plastic. Their movement was positive and chunky. Overall materials were close to par with my E92 save for the center console, plastic framing the IP switchgear and screening, A-pillar detailing and speaker covering, window framing, etc. I was impressed with the level of material and build quality for the money, especially when it comes with that level of performance.

If you're someone who needs a luxurious cockpit, it's not the kind of car for you. The M is the better overall drive with far better materials. If you're looking for some great performance and a hell of a modding platform, it's going to be a dream come true. It has a stiff chassis, plenty of amenities, and all of the proper starting ingredients to build off of.

That's without any exhaust modification, and there's already reports of how restrictive the three cat setup is. Remove the odd suitcase/crossover pipe, save 20-30lbs and gain 10RWHP/TQ. Plenty of potential for the FBO crowd. Get a coilover setup, a set of decent tires, and you'll have a serious contender.

IMO the new Mustang looks too much like the previous edition. First saw it at Reno Hot August Nights in a big Ford display, and much of the crowd walked right by the 2015 not noticing it was the new/unreleased model! Normally a new muscle car would get all kinds of attention at a show like that. I know it's an all-new car, but the styling cues still remain much the same...

I hope you are wrong, but deep down I hope you are right it will save me some money

I had E46 M3 and E92 335i, I now have S2k and I am pretty impressed with driving and quality of the car compared to Germans (yes the luxury wow factor is not there but its still quality and solid). I have never had Ford, I have never had V8, and I havent even seen new Mustang yet......so I dont know.

It looked pretty impressive judging by pictures, videos, and all reviews.

Only mustang I'd consider is a Shelby GT500. I drool over those. The rest, besides the Boss 402, aren't that good.

I followed one home the other day and thought the rear looked odd. It did make me miss my old 89 though. If I were to do a Mustang again, it'd be another Fox body for sure. Nothing beats the ease to modify and the lightness of that car.

I actually had one on order since May. 2015 GT Premium, 6 spd manual with performance pack and Recaros. I finally got a chance to drive one (not mine) a few weeks ago and it didn't impress me nearly as much as I thought it would. So I started looking at other options and bought an e90 M3 this Monday. Couldn't be happier!

When it comes to mustangs they either need to be a special edition, or modified to get that level of enjoyment. I like the new Mustang well enough, but I think the interior still looks like shit. If I had a multi car garage to fill I would consider getting a GT to work the balls out of. It would still have some competition to contend with in the Challenger though.

I am have not been to happy with the new GT. I like looks from certain angles, and other i feel the car just looks kind of goofy. I think the car will probs do well though, even if i don't like it.

I love my E92 m3 interior. I sat in a loaded C7 stingray priced 70k, which is about what my M3 costed. Not saying the stingray is a better made car or matches my M3 interior. but its actually feels pretty good, and i would be pretty happy with it. moving to my next car which is going to be a C7. Just telling you gotta pay more for a decent interior.

the mustangs are to much of a budget car, they start a 22k. What more can you really expect.
