Where are you guys buying the Kit from? I can only find either the right or the left side actuators, and each one is about $100.

Thanks!

I just replaced the drivers door latch right before posting.
The DIY is good and I would have taken longer without it.

FYI - I used some of the sticky door panel stuff on the tip of my allen wrench to get the lock cover off. I took the bolt all the way out.

I removed the bottom 10mm nut on the regulator closest the latch.
You can get the latch past the regulator track, it's just a bitch to do it.

It took me about 2.5 hours to get it done.
I can probably do the passenger side in about half that now I know what to expect. That's a job for a different weekend though.

Anyway, this DIY is very valuable.

Oh, and Ilke just about everyone else I broke on of those clips holding wires to the actuator. There is just know way to get the one off the side without breaking it.

Parts - are front and rear passenger actuators the same?

I just finished this DIY and replaced my front passenger side door actuator.

With the all the posts here, it went pretty smoothly - I left the window up all the way and didn't disconnect the battery. And by removing the bottom window guide bolt and loosening the top, I was able to maneuver the old actuator out and the new one in.

Only hitch was it took about 20 mins to work one of the cable clips out of the old actuator while it was still inside the door! The sucker just wouldn't release...

So thanks for the all the great stuff in this thread! But of course, now my rear passenger door one has gone as well.

Quick question: does anyone know if the front and rear passenger actuators are identical? They seem to have different part numbers but I'm not sure.

I'd love to repair the old front one I took out and use it to replace the now-broken rear one - using this guide: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...light=actuator

Thanks,

S.

I posted my own version of this DIY on the M3 forum. I took some shortcuts from this DIY like not releasing the window and keeping the window in the up position while working. It seems like the assembly is slightly different from the non-M but this one may help some of you.

Door Lock Issue Insight to save you $/ euro.

My 2006 E90 325 4 door had the same door lock issue as of 10 days ago. The driver’s door would not open with the clicker and all others would open and lock, as would the windows and sun roof if one held down the button. I spoke to my mechanic and he ordered the door lock part in before I dropped it in for fixing. Once he diagnosed the issue, he installed the new part. Here is the kicker. He knew from experience that the 1 series (now sure what model) door lock part works in the 3 series and at 100 Euro less, he ordered me the 70 Euro 1 series door lock. It is all fixed and working a dream, all in for 191 euro including 13% tax. Compared to 291 if he went with the 3 series door lock. Giddy Up from the Emerald Isle, hope this helps someone out there.

Did this today, thanks to this DIY and the one on bimmerzone, I knocked out the passenger and driverside out in about 2hrs

Hardest part for me, I pulled on the door handle and it slipped off its hinge, took me about 15 mins of using an L-shaped screwdriver to pull and re-seat it and stupid me I did it on both doors...

Just like to say thank you for people here sharing what to do when the door lock get stuck. My 08 335i just having the same issue and by following the advise here I'd managed to replace the blown fuse #73 with 20 amp. All doors is back to normal now. I do have a question (stupid) what if one of the actuator/latch was totally dead on the other doors besides the driver one which can be opened using the physical key. How to manage changing the actuator/latch when the door can't be opened at all...any tricks?

Thanks again!

I replaced my front passenger actuator today. The main write up for this post was great help.

You do not need to remove the exterior door handle when replacing the front passenger door actuator.

I left the window fully closed and removed the lower 10mm nut from the vertical bar that guides the window up and down. With the lower bolt removed and the upper bolt loosened, I was able to swing the vertical guide bar to the side to remove the actuator.

The hardest part was removing the 2 plugs that hold a wire against the actuator.

Does anyone know, that when you disconnect the battery to do this DIY (and others), do you need to disconnect the batter the night before? Or can you disconnect it an hour or two before and then go to work?

Thanks for the writeup man, i'll be doing this next weekend once i get the parts. My mechanic is trying to charge me 360 for this job, not down.

The actuator is up to $85 on bavarian autosport, but its still better than 360.

Use a flat-head screw driver and push on the cam in the direction of the arrow (green) while pushing down on the linkage hook (yellow). Should pop right open. I did it on both doors and it worked like a charm. Just to make sure I got this right, I closed my doors a couple times and repeated the process.

I modified this picture from TyPe-ZeRo. I didn't take one up close when I did this.

Hope this helps.
Thanks so much for this tip! My driver's rear door was stuck closed and I would never have figured out how to open it without this advice. Just swapped out the lock actuator using this thread; thanx to OP for posting this excellent DIY.

FWIW: I did not lower the window or disconnect the battery, and there's no need to loosen the window regulator on the rear door. Nobody should be afraid to make this repair; it's too easy and saves hundreds.
This whole process was hell and a learning experience. My actuator was broken and doors locked and can't open from interior or exterior. FML
Options
-yellow arrow hole is where to stick a flathead and rotate the internal white plastic gears. PERFECT!!!

- checked the fuse box first

- central locking button on dash helps

-battery reset

Pay attention to prior signs of actuator failure. 400+ job with dealer/local shops
100+ for DIY!!! Buy some new parts with money you save!!!!

Anyone else have new parts show up without the (3) T-30 bolt holes tapped? I got a kit from Bavauto, got the old mech out and was installing the new one and the 3 holes are not tapped....on either side I received.

I suppose I could just tap them but seems like a pretty big miss in QA if that is the case.
