Apparently he was involved in a motor accident a week or two before his ski crash.
And Massa says he say Schumi move his mouth...good news!

MS is about to enter month three of being comatose, and at best he has blinked his eyes and maybe moved his mouth a little bit. I'm no doctor, but I do have some firsthand experience with induced comas and they typically don't last anywhere near this long. It's usually a matter of days, not weeks or months. I think Massa's 'update' is pretty telling of just how bad off MS really is.

It really pains me to say this, but I think MS's condition is permanent at this point.

I hope I'm wrong.

I hope you are wrong but one must remember MS is effectively a billionaire and has access to treatment none of us ordinary folks do, that many practicing MD's may be unaware of. If it is possible within the realm of current medical science, even research level stuff, it will be tried.

My cousin was a multi millionaire and had a terminal lung problem which I now forget the name of, I had looked up if it was curable and it was via a lung transplant. One of his family members called me to ask about it and I mentioned he could go to Asia and buy a set of lungs and get it transplanted, but for some reason it never happened, I dont think they even tried, and no doctor suggested it to them knowing he was rich.

A few years ago my mom was in the intensive care unit at Methodist hospital in Houston. In the very next room was President Bush wife. They both got the same treatment regardless of who had more money. But in some cases depending where you are I can agree that money talks loud

Bahrain International Circuit to honor Schumacher by naming 1st corner after him.

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/112730?

At the end of the article, the family states they are sure Michael will love it. Maybe this confidence he will pull through is a good sign? I hope so. Get well MS!

^^it's still only speculation, but considering he's been comatose since the end of December with no end in sight, I think it's pretty obvious what the final outcome is going to be. This isn't the movies after all.

Very sad. It's really put a damper on the F1 season for me.

Being in the medical profession, all I can say is the longer you are in a comatose state, the less likely you'll come back. The sadest part is, even if he does make it, the hardest part is what would become of him. Being partially alive, getting your butt wiped, barely able to talk can be considered living by some. I don't judge. Everyone has there own definition of "quality of life". We still have young people in nursing home, and "home hospital" with bed sores, recurrent pneumonia etc. Going to be a tough one. My usual question to our patient's family member is does he have an advance directive, and what does he or she consider quality of life. Irregardless, this is truly sad for MS. I hope he truly pulls a miracle.

No, unfortunately.

He's officially been comatose for three months. If you asked several doctors, I think most if not all would tell you that his chances of even waking at all at this point are just about non-existent.

I'm no doctor but I think he's not coming back from this. Difficult decisions are ahead for the family.

I certainly hope he reaches some level of real consciousness and awareness. Schumi is the reason I've been following F1 since the mid-90's. He's an amazing driver.

But that said, my little sister spent 12 years in a persistent vegetative state (a phrase I hate). She "regained consciousness" after being in a coma for a month, but the level of consciousness was eyes open and unfocussed with no awareness whatsoever. Her CAT scans never showed any brain activity at all except for her brain stem which kept her heart beating and lungs pumping.

Like I said, I seriously hope Schumi gets beyond that state, but don't get your hopes up too much. It's still very much a wait-and-see situation.
