GTR Tranny Blown. Nissan denies warranty, because stability control was turned off

http://www.nagtroc.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=25361

Looks like Nissan wasn't kidding... This guy's tranny went poof, and Nissan wants him to shell out 20 grand for a new one, because he disabled stability control.

I don't see how anyone in their right mind could buy a GTR after reading this.

People will still line up for them but this is BAD exposure. And in one of the first test drives I saw (red car) they disabled it and ran 5 runs to get their 0-60?????????????? Could have sworn Nissan engineers were there from Japan.......

We built a great fun car that is super fast and has loads of power. In fact, the car even has tons of buttons and gauges that you can play with and have even more fun with the car. However, if you use that power and have fun with the car, it tends to break easily and we won't cover it when you use it for what it was designed to do. Please just tell your friends how cool and fast your car is as showing them will void your warranty. Bottom line is that we will only cover your car if you drive it like a Buick is meant to be driven. If you use the car for what it was designed to do, you're out of luck.

The 1st-gen E46 M3 and the Ferrari F430 have "secret" launch control programs that would also kill the drivetrain. What's your point? I can't think of any drivetrain in the world that would survive an unlimited amount of hard launches.

BTW this link is already posted in the "Why buy a GTR" forum

Follow the link, read the thread. Does it mention anywhere that he was doing hard launches everytime he got in the vehicle? Any 10 year old knows that eventually you're going to destroy your drivetrain doing hard launches. Especially an AT. What's YOUR point?

If you cannot buy a vehicle and have even the smallest amount of enjoyment by being able to achieve the numbers that were advertised by Nissan, without worrying about having to spend $20k on a transmission, then yes I could care less about the GT-R now.

Retarded...just goes to that even the most dedicated companies don't care about anything but $$$$

If my company had to shell out 20grand for a new tranny every time someone broke it I'd make an excuse too.

BTW: this makes me think of possible tranny problems with the tunes 335i's in the future..

DUMBEST CAR EVER!,... Well, it's not the cars fault,... it's Nissan, I guess they will never be ready to be an "Important" Manufacturer,... "Oh we want to beat Porsche, and we can, but we're still afraid of doing it, we still don't trust ourselves",... then STFU and GTFO. M3 FTW!!!

I did go to the link. I POSTED THAT LINK BEFORE THIS THREAD CAME UP. Why else would I tell you this is a repost?

The OP stated that his CA or similar told him to launch it as many times as he wanted. So there is the assumption that he launched it many times. Even people on the boards think he launched it quite a bit. I can't read through all the pages at work so you can you show me the number of times he launched it?

I was addressing your "screw Nissan" part because BMW and Ferrari (in their regular F430) would have done the same thing - not warranty something that your car shouldn't be doing.

I was addressing your "screw Nissan" part because BMW and Ferrari (in their regular F430) would have done the same thing - not warranty something that your car shouldn't be doing.
So you're saying the car shouldn't be hitting the performance numbers that Nissan put out there for the world to see and that the only way to get 0-60 in 3.5 and 1/4 mile in 11.6 sec(can't remember for sure) is to void your warranty and disable traction control? That sounds normal and fair to you?

This isn't a discussion about how many times he launched. In this case, he launched like 20 times since he's had the car. The fact is that the tranny is wear, it only comes in AT, and as soon as you disable VDC you've voided at the very least your transmission warranty if not all of it. Yep, I'm sure all the Nissan sales reps let their customers know about that BEFORE they put their deposits down...

I'm sorry, but the luster on the GT-R is gone. Give me a R34 anyday.
