i wish there were more bosses like u to be a mentor and groom the younger generation into successful people. one of my friend's parents own a construction company too, their very well off and i was just joking around and being like "oh i wish i could own a construction company and make tons of money like u guys" and the response they gave me was kinda shocking. they told me, "don't do it, it's not worth all time it takes away from your family and all the strain it puts them through."

But why the condo/townhouse? I live in one myself and have had a few nice cars but I'm also 29 and live in an area where houses are $800k minimum. When you're talking about millions of dollars in vehicles over the years, you never built yourself a dream house on a nice chunk of land? Maybe that's a big part of the "saving and investing" part but figured I would at least ask the question. I hope this doesn't come off as douchey as I am genuinely curious.

Vehicles are sound investments? Lol

I only wish the market in downtown Vancouver could afford the opportunity to buy and flip houses at a faster pace. At $700 sq/ft, it's a bit slower process for me, but one nonetheless. Congrats on all your wheels. There's certainly some beaut's in the lot

It all about Hard work.. yes there are those with a silver spoon but not me .. the silver spoon is few and far between..

I own a construction Co.
but the story..

I ran track in HS was pretty damn good, I decided not to go to college and even gave up some financial incentives to go .. ( maybe not a wise choice but did)..
the day after HS Grad. I flew to Alaska to build a house and really learn a trade I worked my ass off and Stayed until cold weather came.

I went back to NJ, decided that i was still around all HS buddies and realized this was a dead end.. ( good choice)

I came to NC started with the company that i own now, in 1984 my starting pay was 4.25 /hr. basically a laborer, i decided i was going to be the best laborer there and become a carpenter. worked my way up became lead carpenter... i worked every weekend i could ebery side job i could do... ( trades people make a lot of side money)
I Became a foreman, with all my side money i bought my first house at 23, renovated it of course missed out on a lot of parties ect. but was worth it . sold and made some money!... kept working and buying and selling buildings ect ... risked a lot.. worked hard...
became partner in the company.. then i really worked my ass off 24/7! my partner decided to retire and i bought the company... ok 27 years later i still work hard /...
most of the guys in my company have been with me for 10 yrs or longer...! I just hired a kid 20 yrs old seams like a good kid hard worer... hopefully I can groom him to a successful, happy life..

The Key is hard work good attitude love what you do... treat people well ...

dont forget where you came from and pay it forward..

save and Invest in sound investments... No one will help you ...

I wish you all well

Matt
You sir are a true gentlemen and a class act.

Anyone who responds to trash with kindness deserves nothing but respect. That is the truest show of class: being at ease.

Great story, hard work pays off! Wish you could teach that stuff, unless its through family values...you can't!

Nice Car! Congrats and cool story about your beginnings and where you are at today. Enjoy in good health. I think it speaks volumes that there are a lot of people who want to be like their Dad - evidence of a solid up bringing.
