Any people who can start a fire with two sticks?

Like Tom Hanks in Castaway.

Just curious. I always wanted to be able to do that.

never tried it. i think you need a bow though so you can spin one piece of wood fast enough to create enough friction.

You don't need a bow. It is pretty simple.

Two dry peices of wood, notch a hole in the side of one (sizeable hole) and fill it with stuff that is easily flammable. Then carve a point into the other piece of wood and put it in the hole and start spinning it back and forth really fast with the palms of your hands. This will work, you just have to get the flame built up from the tender, that is the hardest part.

I just thought about that movie on Tues, on a plane trip home. Wasn't that awesome when his plane hit the water?! Incredible scene.

I don't know that I would want to flash back to that scene while sitting in aisle seat 10A.

I often think of that Cast Away scene when flying, and I have the song 'Plane Crash' by moe. running through my head - the band prefers flying over driving, because when driving, they get too 'high':

verse 1:
Up in the sky it's bird it's a plane
Yea it's a plane
I'm not afraid to fly im not afraid
Yea I guess I'm afraid
Fear is a good thing
It teaches us humility
And it can keep us sane
So I'll fly high if I have to
If I could I take the train

verse 2:
Livin away from home on the road all the time
Ah, all the time
Driving up and down and back and forth
no reason or rhyme
Yea you guess right
Makes a grown man confront his fears
Consider options he'd normally decline
I'm gonna find my ticket to fly
I'm gonna fly
I'm gonna fly

chorus:

Strap me in, tie me down
and roll me a bone
I'm gettin on an airplane
and I'm flying home
Strap me in, tie me down
I'm learning to fly
Drive across the country
I get too fuckin high

(too fuckin high) I don't wanna die
(too fuckin high) too fuckin high
(too fuckin high) too fuckin high
(too fuckin high) Yea

verse 3:
fly me so high yea 20' 30 thousand
that's pretty high
when they take off my chest sinks
my ears pop I pray
I lie
I think about the network news to torture myself
and to pass the time
they tell me my seat cusion is a floatation device
pray to God they ain't lying

repeat chorus

Fire from sticks? Easy.

Fire from a candy bar and a soda can? More challenging:

How about with a 9V battery, a piece of 0000 steel wool, cotton ball, and bug spray?

haha... have you ever tried it? It will take hours.
Have you seen the people on survivor try to do it? They spend their whole day doing it and give up. It's possible, but takes an incredible amount of time/patience.
