Yessir, V1 is what I drive with. You may find that the Escort's of the world offer more "features", but once you get comfortable with your radar detector the most important things are simplicity, range, and reliability. You'll learn to disregard nuisance warnings like airports on your own (or smartly configure your V1 to reduce the chance of nuisance warnings). Get yourself a "stealth" install like this to keep cops off your back, learn what kind of radar the local and state cops use (K or Ka for example), and cruise easy.

Passport here, I have a few tickets with it but it has gotten me out of at least twice as many. I don't believe I would have had any different results with a v1, so I would get the one you can get a better deal on.

V1 has way too many false alarms and the cops here use all the different bands so I like the escort a little better. I use the escort 8500x50 and it's range is a little worse. I've heard good things about bel radar detectors too.

All I know is my V1 has picked up LASER off of cars in front of me being hit. Dunno any other detector that does that. Usually when laser goes off on another brand it means YOU are being hit, and its already too late.

Don't really believe that, but ok you got lucky. get some veil and laser jammers. The false alarms are very annoying on the V1 though.

I've picked up many a laser off of cars around my general area. Its saved me a small fortune over the course of many cars and hasn't needed any upgrades or new models etc. |

That's interesting, I actually searched and found this to be common.

My Passport MAX has issued laser alerts when I was far upstream from the cars being painted... a few times... but not reliably enough to expect to receive advance warning in all conditions.

Yeah I don't bank on always picking up laser, but the fact that it does sometimes is pretty awesome.
I ALWAYS get other radar. This thing has paid for itself a few times over. |

my house has a V1 and a Passport - personally I think they both do a great job; the V1 tends to put out more false alerts and the Passport has saved me just as many times as the V1... if I were doing it again I would go with the Passport!
either way you will more than make your $$ back in tickets avoided! |
