Hey guys, looking for some advice please.


I have a 2008 N54 335i Le Mans blue with sunroof, idrive, I think it was a fairly high spec model.

The car needed a new water pump, at first I had the hump and was semi set on getting a new car and then decided to sort it, then when fitting the new pump one of the bolts snapped. The missus said maybe it was time for a new car so I obviously took that option before she changed her mind.

So I bought an M4 and the 335 is now in a yard an hour away from me, I haven’t seen it in 9 months and I’m also trying to restore a 3rd car that I’m paying £100 a month storage for.


So the 335 needs to go, What sort of money are the parts worth, I’m considering removing anything I can get off in a weekend and then selling the rest or scrapping it. I’d probably always regret scrapping it though as it was such a good car, I wish I’d fixed it instead of buying a new car but it’s done now.


The car was also under warranty for 10 years so had torque converter, both turbos, boost solenoids, coilpacks, injectors and high/low fuel pressure fuel pumps fitted approx. 30k ago.

I also had new window rubbers fitted 3 months before I stopped using it, that was a £1900 job at BMW haha.





Here’s a list of parts fitted from memory that I can remove.

Is there anything else that’s worth money on these cars? Or what sort of money do you think it would be worth as a whole?

Not sure what it's worth but it sounds like it has had most of the troublesome items sorted. It would be a shame to break it. Can't the snapped bolt be drilled out?

Yeah it could be, it's just a few hour of additional labour as front subframe has to be lowered down to access it now, or you could dismantle the front end to do it but subframe is the quickest method apparently.

But even if I get that sorted I'm still not gonna insure/tax/mot and service it just to put it up for sale.

I'm kicking myself for not sorting it out even after getting the M4, It had a MHD remap and a gearbox remap so it didn't hang round, sounded much better than the M4 too .

The water pump is held with 2 bolts right? Just tell the prospective buyer they need to repair it next time they have the subframe off.
The bolt just holds the pump to the block - it’s fine to drive for a short period with only one bolt surely?

Yeah it is 2 I think, the BMW tech said it wasn't a total failure and idled fine in the workshop. It would be fine to drive for a couple of miles.

I've told the missus we need to go down there and check it out this weekend to see what condition it's in.

Damn, you decided to potentially scrap a nice 335 bc of a broken water pump bolt? Definitely don't part it out. It likely needs way more work than it did now if it's been sitting outside for 9 months but sell it as is for someone to fix up or just fix and keep it IMO. It could've been up and running in less than a day.

You could fix it in less time than it would take to strip for parts..... There's your answer!

Yeah I know man, I regret it now but when my missus said 'maybe it's time to get your V8' all I could focus on was a 5.0 Supercharged F type, then that was sold so V8 anyway.

Swapping from a 335 to an M4 was not a cost effective upgrade.

Not having a go at you but if that list is all you can think of when breaking the car, you're really not going to recoup potential value from the car.

Think common faults or things that are hard to obtain.

Fuel injectors - You could probably sell them individually for £200 each or a whole set for ~£2000. If you have the versions everyone is after, thats a win straight away.
Coil packs - I think these are common things to go at this cars age.
Front and rear bumpers, boot lid. Doors even!
Even various wiring looms, micro switches, window mechanisms.
lol, wheel bolts and locking key!

If you were to completely strip the shell and sell everything for 25-40% less than what is currently on the marketplace you would still earn more from that over time than selling the car whole.

You probably don't have the space for all of these things but when you are on the other side of the coin like us and BMW wants to charge you £500 for a whole boot section because they don't sell the £1.99 micro switch individually, the first place we are going to go is eBay to see whats available.

I think at the time I had it in my mind for some reason that the car comes with 12 thus someone could save some money if they bought it in bulk from them.

It just reminded me of a mate who sold drinks at £1.50 each or 3 for £5...a lot of people went for the multi buy without thinking. All good fun
