FORGED DRIVE: 2008 C300 Sport 6 Speed

Year:2008
Make:Mercedes Benz
Model: C300 Sport 6 Speed
Price:$33,000

What did you think?

I appreciated the salesman pointing out and explaining facts and features that I had no idea about. I did not know that this car had a better turning radius than a Mini Cooper, or that "Hill Hold" exsisted. For those who didn't know, hill hold is a 3 second pause where the car will hold it self on a hill without using the clutch and brake so you can get going... neat. However he got pretty annoying when he started talking down to be or bashing other cars with untrue information because he was a closed minded, German only, trying to sell a car type of guy... he wouldn't shut up.

The car looked very nice but did not have XENONs which IMO are a must if I am going to buy a MB, BMW, Audi whatever. The price was not bad and the car drove pretty well. The transmission shifted nicely, tight not sloppy or too smooth like I would have expected. I was a fan of the interior and the overall look. The power was pretty decent but that may be because I have not driven a fast car in quite some time, it handled pretty well but the seats could use some more side support (but hey it's an entry level luxury sedan right).

I liked the car overall, the fact that it was new, looked very nice and did plenty of things well. However I think that what makes or breaks it are the small things like it not having HID's. Sure it is pretty cheap but come on, you couldn't throw that in? Blahhh.

Overall I do not think that I could let go of the used car market for one of these. $33,000-$36,000 to me should have more power even if the handling and braking of this car stayed the same. I was glad to see however that all MB are not slush box comfort coaches. If you need something brand new, with a warranty and have not had seat time in cars such as Corvettes, S4's, M3's, EVOs and STis... or already have one? Then this is something that should be checked up. However I fear that if driven back to back to back with a 2009 A4 or 2009 E92 328i Sport package... it may not do so well. For me, it would be remembered as a pretty nice car but not something I would buy over a low mileage E46 M3 or something more performance oriented. But I must say, the C63 AMG must be one NASTY HUNK of holy crap! Thanks, I'm done.

Wait so there is a 6 speed manual of this car? Based on the pics it is automatic.

*EDIT* Oh wow, I thought MB had forgotten how to make 6 speeds. Who cares though, I'd never buy from them. What is the big deal with hill assist anyways, lazy fucking Americans. Are you looking to buy this or something? You make it seem as if you can barely afford groceries...lol.

Funny thing is that they don't offer the 6mt with the C350.

I think it's a great car if you're leaning more towards comfort. I drove a demo C300 back when the car was launched, and thought it stacked up well in terms of comfort, room, and technology. It's still lacking in terms of steering heft/feel, suspension stiffness, and lateral support, but it's a compromise they made for comfier driving characteristics.

It's not my cup of tea but I wouldn't steer anyone away from one, that's for sure. I'd still much rather look at the new A4 with the adaptive damping, larger interior dimensions, and better handling (not to mention better looks imo; you think xenons are a must, wait till you see those LEDs).

And yes, I think the C300 is definitely in need of some more power, maybe another 30bhp/30 lb-ft, raising it to 258bhp and 251 lb-ft.

My bro has a C350.Smooth ride and power delivery. Nice interior, but the smell of the leather can lighten your head a bit. It was pointed out by the salesman that there are slits in the tail lights reduce drag. Nice touch! Then we all sat in the C63. Nice seats indeed, but the layout and feel was the same. The exhaust was crazy!

On this car, the awesome Nav is a must, and also premium sound and the panoramic moonroof, which looks great on a white car.
The c300 is a nice option to the swarm of 328i's out around my local mall.

I drove a c300 luxury automatic and it was slow as shit, but I did like the fact that it plays dvd in the nav screen. If i wanted a C-class it would have to be the C63 amg

drove the c-class, with the sales man.. i believe c300.. I kept laughing the whole time, everytime he told me to "floor it, and hit the button...." before I entered the freeway. He also told me to take the corners because "this car is very capable" .. I was laughing my ass off because the handling and power delivery was so shitty, i mean SHITTY, I had to go back to BMW and take a breather and a sigh of relief.

Oh and when I mean laughing my ass off, literally laughing in the car while driving, he thought I was crazy probably.

I really do not think the Mercedes C300 is "shitty" at all in driving capabilities. Compared to BMW then ya you can argue it does not have the same feel. BUT it is meant to be much more luxurious than sporty. The feel of the steering is also suppose to be much softer. AND compared to any other cars like Audi, Volvo, VW or any other car manufacturer I still believe it is much more luxurious and great all around car.
