Damn, I mean going over 400-450 whp on a 4 banger is anyways not ideal since the law of diminishing returns begins to play in with respect to turbo lag. So yeah I think as the years have gone by these parts are just getting better and better.

im450 is the one to get then? What about im500?

Im500 gives a bit of “lag” however is a turbo that you have to build the block to max out fully.

Im450 typically makes 380-400whp on 93 at 27-28 psi of boost.

Im500 makes around 420 whp on 93 at 27- 28 psi of boost. HOWEVER the turbo can take 37-40 psi all day and you be at or over 500whp with e85 and port injection or upgraded injectors. Power band does shift.

Oem+ like driving + oem type spool + 400 wheel im450 is the way you want to go.

Best turbo upgrade for the B48/6 is either the IMS450 or the IMS500, the 450 is stock like spool up to 450 wheel, the 500 is considered more big turbo and had noticeable lag but can support up to 500+whp allegedly. Both can be found at IPOS Motorsport

Im450 Turbo upgrade

Hi everyone,

I have been thinking to do the Im450 turbo upgrade because I saw a guy on youtube DIY it and seemed to work really good.

currently I am on BM3 Stage 2 multimap on 93 and catless dp, titanium charge pipe, Mst intake system, and a stage 3 tune on XHP transmission tuning.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with doing a Im450 turbo upgrade and what supporting mods I would need to not blow my engine.

All you really need is a custom tune and you'll be fine. I would get a turbo inlet however as you'd max out all your current parts. if you reach out to IPOS directly they may do a package deal with for the two parts at the same time (intake manifold + turbo).

I like Navardi tuned with this setup as he worked directly with IPOS to get all the kinks worked out and max out this turbo safely. GoRaceBox is also an option known more in the VQ community, but is now doing more and more BMW things.
