+1. When BMW tells you they reduced weight, it usually means it lost weight when dry compared to a wet fully loaded car, LOL.
Maybe they can actually make the M6/6 a nice looking car. I personally dont see why anyone would want to buy one. Handles terribly, looks bland and is too expensive for what it is. |

Until the typical M3/M4 is under that weight, NO WAY does a 6 series even come close. Keeping the next gen M6 under 4k would be a surprise.

Well, you can forget all that. The new car is fitted with a turbocharged straight six. Turbocharging? In an M car? That’s like putting gravy on an ice cream. - Jeremy Clarkson, discussing the S65 and then S55 M3 engines. |

Scott has said that starting with the new 7 series, BMW will start using more cfrp in the normal series lineup to reduce weight drastically.
Looks like it's starting to shape up to wait he's been saying in that regard. I love the 6 series now so really looking forward to what the next M6 will bring to the table. Only problem is I can't afford one If BMW goes down this route that means the next 3/4 and 2 series will go back to e46 weight. We can only hope |

It's not that farfetched. It was a bummer to see how much weight the M3/M4 really saved after all the hype but keep in mind that the chassis was already established so there was only so much weight you can save.
With the 35UP platform, these types of weight savings are highly possible and we're not just talking about CFRP enforced shafts or parts found in the M3/M4. Now that all cars (3-Series and higher) share the same platform, BMW can actually implement weight saving tech while drastically reducing costs. Will the 6er come down to 3500lbs? Probably not but I'm sure there will be substantial weight savings and not just mechanical parts. |

Coincidentally I was at Century West BMW last week and test drove an M6 for kicks. It amazes me, as it's a bit more roomy than my M235i inside but not abundantly more legroom (front or back). Yet the car simply feels like a brontosaurus comparatively when driving. Any diet they can put this thing on would be welcome.

If the G-chassis 7 series will shed weight, I would expect the same for the 5 & 6 series. Weight reducing technology should be shared by all the models on the same platform.

Unconfirmed rumors, to see that they are actually might believe.
The LCI of this car is coming and it seems logical that BMW wants to demonstrate greater technology and overcoming in all aspects. |

Sarcasm? Seriously I can't tell. Germany can't possibly have a different scale for pounds, can they? I do know the british gallon is different than ours, but what happened to standard units of measure?

The engine for this car will be a super efficient 3 cyl 330hp powering the front wheels + an electric 120 kW + a set of two hamsters on steroids spinning in a wheel to power the rear wheels of the car.
Great MPG. |

3,450lbs on an M6? Sure sure... maybe bone dry, with no options, cloth interior, and no wheels.
You should just buy an F80. They are under 3600 lbs and about the size of the E60. |

I have heard rumors of an i8 3 cylinder/hybrid+AWD for the M5/6. That could get them over 600 hp easiest. The instant torque will be desirable too.
