Tacoma 4WD question

For those that live in SoCal
If I get a say 06 Tacoma 4WD with all season tires. Will I be able to drive up big bear to snowboard while snowing on the road without chains? Or would I have to have snow tires?

I drove up w/ a Lexus GX, also 4wd, on all seasons during a storm without any problems.
The rangers up there just make sure you have chains in your car, just in case of some emergency, but they didn't make me put them on.
