Lazy types from your high school days that are successful with their education

Anyone here know anyone from your high school days that was lazy/slacker/class clowns that are successful with their education? I just know a few but there's this girl from my high school that eventually finished medical school and she's doing her residency now. She did crappy in her first few years in high school, came in late, mouthed off teachers, but did well in her last year in high school. I'm surprised she got accepted to a good University. I'm more shocked she got accepted to a good medical school. I just can't believe she even passed medical school. Now she's attending University of Toronto doing her residency in Family Medicine.

Now I know another girl in high school who was a total outcast skater type who also loved to mouth off teachers, skipped a lot of classes even for her last year of high school. She ended up going to a good University and getting her Engineering degree. Yeah, she graduated with an Engineering degree.

It just shocks me that some of these people you know from high school ended up becoming successful even though they acted like total slackers/class clowns in high school.

I didn't consider myself a slacker or a class clown but I'm sure people felt I was a slacker because I didn't care to try in high school. BUT, I did get my act together when I was at university.

...If you still think high school is indicative of future success you are clearly mistaken.

I have a friend who went to medical school, started ~15 years after high school. Took some time off to get his act together.

He was voted most likely to commit assault (or kill someone, or something like that) at high school graduation.

Stopped drinking and doing drugs, cleaned up. Good thing, real smart guy.

Appearances can be very deceiving.

Engineering, you say? Anyone can be an engineer.

How hard is it to drive a train?

I hated high school. I discoved that most of the people from my high school who behaved, worked hard, didn't act like slackers, didn't end up doing professional jobs like doctors, lawyers and engineers.

I just hated my high school because it was too big. It felt like a huge college not a high school. There were lots of immature idiots at my high school too which made the environment even worse.

Canadian Universities are very dull. In Canada, in most of the Canadian cities, you cannot chose your high school which is totally sad. If you live in one neighbourhood, you'll have to attend a certain high school.

I heard that there will be a lot of lay offs in colleges and Universities in my area because fewer people are attending post secondary school now.

My experience is that the most successful classmates from high school were not the ones that were the book geeks that studied 24x7, but the ones that were well rounded lives – i.e. were active in sports, outgoing, had good social lives, etc. Two of the most successful people I know, were very average students (one dropped out of university) – today they are multi- millionaires.

As for me, I was a pretty average high school student, completed two university degrees, have a great career, but I am very far from being a multi millionaire.

One of my friends from back home was pretty antisocial in high school and tended to do his own thing. Now's he's an engineer and owns his own company selling some valves he patented himself. He's still kind of antisocial though lol.

And in terms of making lots of money, I don't believe it's the bookworms necessarily that will end making the big bucks. It's whoever has the ambition/will/drive to succeed. It doesn't even necessarily have to be in high school. At some point, they just have an epiphany and think, "Ok. I need to get my shit together." And with luck, they make it big.

Someone once said that the smartest people become the scientists and philosophers, but there's no money in it. It's the people in the lower classes that have drive, luck, and the ability to manipulate the system to their advantage that ultimately get rich.

I dropped out of highschool in 10th grade... f**ked around for a couple years, then got my shit together. i taught myself how to write code and engineer enterprise class distributed computing systems... started my own company with a couple of guys and at 28 I am doing VERY well. not sure how many high school dropouts end up on a path to success, but certainly highschool and college do not have the final say in success in the US.

I dropped out in 10th grade in highschool because I was the epitome of laziness. I smoked marijuana, popped x, drank, cut classes; peer pressure had gotten the best of me that time. I was one of those punks that just went to school to socialize and didn't go to class. After a few unproductive years after I dropped out of highschool, I realized I needed to grow up. It seemed like I was letting myself down and I felt really guilty of it.. plus I really didn't want to have to flip burgers. Now 21 years old, I go to one of the best business colleges in the country pursuing my finance degree and MBA. Got accepted through massive extensive self-studying of SATs and GEDs since I basically missed out on all of my high school years. I also started my own little jewelry importing business a year ago which pays for my bmw

This might not seem a lot and all that, but this is a HUGE turnaround/accomplishment/stepping stone to me due to being one of the most lazy person that you/I will ever know. Sadly, most of my friends are all still fuck ups..
