Marven,

If you're not a mean person then why are you posting the question you did. It appears that you do have a mean streak.

Dayton John is a gentleman. Have you read all his posts? If you had you'd know a little bit about who he is.

What's wrong with you?

Easy does it, dude.

You owe him an apology.

You can do it now in a new thread entiled, "My apologies to Daytona John."

We'll be looking out for it.

If I post photos of my BMW on non-BMW forums then I am labeled as "pretentious" though and I think that is wrong.

There is a difference between having a hobby such as collecting watches, taking photos, driving a car that makes you feel exhilerated, and showing off something just to show it off. John obviously is really into watches, so he likes taking photos and talking about them. It's not like he just makes posts like "Look at my $10,000 watch, don't you wish you had one?" There is a complete difference in tone and intention.

I agree. DaytonaJohn has helped me several times with different watches I was looking at. He offered nothing but excellent and helpful suggestions, and there's no reason to flame him for the pics he's posted.

So he's got a taste for the finer things in life...so what? We all do, or we wouldn't be on a BMW forum.

As far as he wife's ring...man, he just got married for pete's sake and just wanted to share some pics!

I agree his pictures are nice but I am just having trouble understanding why they are of his watches and jewellry that's all...if he's helped alot of people out then kudos to him and he probably is very helpful...I am simply stating how it's come across to me. You can look out for it as much as you want CMD I didnt call him a dick or anything like that so see no need to apologize. Why should I apologize for stating my opinion?? As for the "compensating" comment ok may be that was low - for that I'm sorry Daytona but I still stand on my original posting.

Ok sorry if this is a bit but I need some opinion from the master WIS here..

John what's your opinion on the Breguet Type XX and Type XXI as far as their history and movement are concerned?

A friend of mine wears a Type XX Aeronavale which caught my eye a couple years ago. I appreciate the history Breguet had in the watch industry but the design of most of their watches are on the dressy side and doesn't exactly suit my fancy. The Type XX and Type XXI are far more sporty than their other watches and I especially love the dial they did on the XXI - big improvement over the Type XX.

Love to hear your thoughts on the Type XXI.

I hope I manage to catch you before your honeymoon trip. Otherwise, enjoy the sunny southern Florida!

-hkj

PS. I didn't notice the recent "discussion" on this thread before I post. There are people with passion for watches, as there people with passion for cars. I know we have quite a few watch enthusiasts here from previous threads. I think John's just sharing his passion with us, which is not at all different from me posting my track photos whenever i attended an HPDE. Let's not make this a hostile environment here for people with other hobbies.

The apology is appreciated. Everyone is welcome to their opinion. Tact is knowing when and where to express it.

I'll say from the onset that I've only ever reviewed (for a magazine) one Breguet model - a platinum and white gold tourbillion model that was roughly 100k. It was certainly an exceptional piece. I've not yet had the opportunity to review a Breguet chronograph, but I think I'll give my contacts a call and have them send me one.

From one perspective, very few companies have the horological creditials which Breguet does, so anything you buy from them will no doubt impress. But let me offer a contrarian perspective below:

You've sort of hit the nail on the head here....Breguet has a history and image firmly set in complicated dress pieces...horological works of art. However, Breguet in't the first name I think of when I think of great sport chronographs...Omega, Rolex, Tag Heuer, Zenith....these are names that jumpt to mind (in no particular order). That's not to say the Aeronavale isn't a great watch....I can't authroitatively comment on that one way or another. Just some food for thought. I hope this helps.

Thanks to all the kind folks who voiced support for me in this thread.

To those that consider my posting photographs of Rolex watches as "look at me" showing off of wealth posts: Consider that all things are relative.

In the world of fine wristwatches, Rolex is considered, at best, a mid-tier brand. Brands like Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constatin, or A. Lange & Sohn....these are watches where you need about $10k to jump in at the entry level, with typical models ranging from $30k to over $100k. Certainly in those crowds, there is a level of appreciate for a brand with the history that Rolex has, but posting a photo of a 4k Submariner, or even a 10k Cosmograph Daytona, gets little more than a "nice watch" from that crowd....a tip of the hat.

It's all relative. If this were a Maybach or Ferrari forum, consider the reponse you'd get to posting a photo of your e90 vs. the response you'd get in a Ford Escort Forum.

I hope to afford just one of those watches you own Daytona_John in my lifetime. I guess I will start out with a $250 watch. Any recommendations?

Sure - there's lots of choices there. Looking for sport (like a diver style) or a dress watch?

Hey - new here and just introduced myself in a different thread. I'm 20 and just starting my watch collection, I chose this Tag for it's sporty style, and its close ties with autosports.

dmitri: Welcome to the board! And what a beautiful Tag Heuer you have there.

I wear a Tag too: the Link automatic chronograph. I love the Link bracelet.

Here are some pics of my Link chronograph (sorry John still haven't take that Tag + BMW photo lol)

Some pics of the watch that I had originally considered buying (pics lifted from other Tag Heuer board): the quartz version of the Link chronograph made famous by the Jason Bourne movies.

I had almost bought this watch but end up choosing the automatic version instead: I simply can't justify spending a few grands on a quartz watch.

That being said, the quartz version is a lot thinner than the ETA 7750 one, has a beautiful dial, and it _is_ the Jason Bourne watch.

I have had a Movado for the past ten years and its been my reliable timepiece. I've recently started to feel like I wanted a more casual watch for the weekends and was inspired by my E90's gauges so I picked up this Burberry last weekend. The band gives me the casual look I wanted when I wear jeans , etc.. Daytona John, any insight into Burberry watches?? it was an impulse buy and I really like it, but not sure of the reliability, how does it rate? The Movado has been flawless over the ten years (changed battery a couple of times as well as crystal because of scrathes, no mech problems)
