Dumbass Wrong number

I just picked up a restricted call on my cell 2 minutes ago, this is how the conversation went...

Me: Hello?
Dumbass: Uh, who's this?
Me: Huh? Hello? Who's this?
Dumbass: (Accusational tone) I think you got the wrong number buddy...
You should check your...
Me: (Thinking WTF?!) Dude, you called me!
Dumbass: Oh.. ya, oh shoot, sorry, uh, wait, oh I got the wrong number.
Me: Ya
Dumbass: Oh... wait, let me check, wait is Jim there?
Me: You got the wrong number.
Dumbass: Ok I'm going to check my number and call you back
Me: Don't call me back!

...click.

I get people mis-dialing all the time.

One time I picked up and this guy started singing happy birthday to Jerry before I could say anything, and it wasn't my birthday and my name isn't Jerry.

Hahah, the dude must be starting his Friday happy hour already!

I don't answer any calls that aren't in my phone book. It's 99% likely it's a wrong number or some kind of stupid spam. Plus, if it's important, they'll leave a message. If not, then it must not be important and I wouldn't want to waste my time. Sometimes I do expect calls from other vendors I've been doing business with but if I don't answer, they'll leave a message.

I get the same thing! I get some arabic sounding person calling probably 3-4 times a month, and I can't understand a word he says. The weird part is that the call never logs correctly in the call logs. It never shows that caller's number or the time/date of the call. It simply displays a blank entry. I'm assuming that it's because the call is from overseas?

Ya, this was comical. The guy was all pissed off that I dialed the wrong number and was all giving me an attitude. What a bitch.

A long time ago I got calls regarding a local hotel. Finally I said "THE INN HAS BURNED DOWN!"

Now I'm much more tolerant of wrong numbers, but we have this one confused lady who calls us about once a month looking for a family member. She also refuses to let us help her, too. Sigh.

I used to always ask what number people were calling, so that I could head them off if they actually did dial correctly, but wrote it down wrong or something. Invariably, tho, they'd refuse to tell me (like I'm gonna call that number and complain or something), hang up, and ring me again in 5 minutes.

Of course in all fairness, I have been guilty of making periodic wrong number calls. Some of my office staff periodically take down messages and transpose numbers. The problem is compounded when I get a voicemail message which doesn't say who they are. [one of my pet peeves] Now they end up with a message with caller ID telling them the hospital called. Oh well.

I got one for ya. When Massachusetts switch from 2 Area code to 4 Area Code, I got the old number of the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority. I would get calls like this

Fee- Hello?
Caller- Mass Turnpike?
Fee- No, try the same number with 508 as the Area Code
Caller- Oh, thanks... Where are you?
Fee- On the Mass Pike.
Caller- How is traffic?
Fee- Stuck.
Caller- Can I hang with you until it opens up, I am at home and I don't wanna get stuck in traffic.
Fee- Sure, are you going to pay my cell bill?
Caller- "Click"

Long story short I would get $50 credit every month because of it and if I ened the call before 2 minutes Bell Atlantic (Verizon now, wouldn't charge me)

That's good. You could always go back and edit it out anyway, I guess, if you needed to.

Hard of hearing response to telemarketer

Once a long time ago (again, when I was younger...) I got a call by a telemarketer regarding a scam, and I gave him the ol hard of hearing bit.

"So you call 1-900-647-5325"
"Eh?"
"You call 1-900-647-5325"
"Well, go ahead!"
" No YOU call the number."
"What number?"
"1-900-647-5325"
"Hold on, lemme get a pencil, jeez.....(long pause)...OK shoot"
"1-900-647-5325"
"1 - 800..."
"900"
"Huh?"
"You said 800. It's 900"
"Oh. 1-900-647-5335"
"25"
"1-900-647-2535"
"5325"
"Right. 1-900-647-53.....What? Honey I'm on the phone, can't it wait?...
1-900-647-sorry give that to me again?"
At this point the telemarketer hung up on me.

I realize that these guys have a job to do, and I wouldn't have done it to a charity call, but gosh, these guys were driving me nuts. I still get lots of calls in Chinese because of my name, asking if I want their long distance. When I tell them no they start to act like they don't speak English. Nothing, not reporting the number or anything has kept them from calling, and they do it at night and everything.
