I don't think many people will be buying OLEDs until the prices come down to earth. $10k is just too fucking much for a TV.

This room was years in the making from having to figure when I had the funds to finish the unfinished basement to planning out exactly how I was going to go about setting up the room. Extremely happy with the results. The acoustics are amazing. I can crank the volume in the room and everything just comes out clear with no resonance or distortion. I've had a few musicians come audition the system and they've commented how good and natural it is. The room was built for audio first while the video part was sort of a secondary thing. |

I am not a layman; I am a person that professionals in the AV industry turn to for information on topics like this. But hey- Don't take my word for it... Here is a link about DirecTV's UHD satellite launch that lays out their live UHD programming. For those not interested in following the link, DirectTV already broadcasts some UHD, but their new satellite will be up and running Q2 2015. http://investor.directv.com/press-re...h/default.aspx

BTW... UHD streaming is already available via Video Unlimited 4K, Netflix, Amazon, and MGO.

I have Netflix and HULU PLus and most of the time Netflix has some crappy picture quality compared to HULU.

Regarding streaming 4k on Netflix, yep, I know. And actually the last link/article I posted pointed out the issue with even that.

Admittedly the vast majority argue the lack of UHD content as the reason to hold off investing in UHD hardware. The much more legitimate reason to hold off is that we are just now transitioning to "full spec" (Rec. 2020) UHD. We will see a rush of Rec. 2020 compliant gear in 2015.
With OLED following a similar timeline, you might be able to see my plan for a new display. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rec._2020" rel="" target="_blank">http://<a href="http://en.m.wikipedi.../Rec._2020</a>

Here's a pic I just snapped of TNT (DirecTV). The NBA double header I watched tonight looked absolutely superb! Felt like I was there on the court LOL!

The more I think about my obsession on having my home theater state of the art and everything reminds me of the vision in Wall-E where in the future we are all glued to our TVs. Sad but can't help my self

I just ordered a set of Martin Logan ESLs last night. I went to Magnolia last night and compared everything from B&W, Energy, Mirage, and ML and the Martin Logans just blew everything else out of the water. To sweeten the deal, ML is running a promo where you get a free Martin logan Dynamo 700W sub (normally $699). Can't beat that!

Subscribing to this thread. I don't have a dedicated theater anymore (our old house we sold 3yrs ago had it in a separate building so noise wouldn't disturb my wife & kid...that was sweet)
But I do have a couple Middle Atlantic racks full of whole house distributed audio, video and home automation gear. I'm very attached to my calibrated panasonic plasmas and am in no rush to replace them. If you guys have any questions about home automation or AV or need to buy some gear, I own an integration company in the SF Bay Area. I mostly focus on the automation programming side. We work on projects as small as a penthouse apartment up to large $100 million dollar homes where the AV budget for the theater alone can reach well over a million dollars. One of my favorite hobbies that just happened to turn into a career. |

Temporary room setup but this is what I've got happening now:
Samsung 50" LED Denon AVR 2808CI AV receiver Front: Definitive Technology Mythos One Center: Definitive Technology Mythos Seven Rear: Definitive Technology Gems Sub: Klipsch KSW12 Panasonic Blue Ray player, Marantz CD player for the media. The sub is the old link in the chain, I've had it forever, but the thing slams hard. I see no reason at all to buy a new sub just cuz it's so old. The def tech's sound amazing, great mid range and very clear overall. Love the TV as well so I am pretty happy with the setup as it stands. I also need a proper TV stand. Haven't gotten around to that yet. That would make this setup look better than it does in this pic I'm sure. It's a mess but it sounds. |

I've gone with a Sanyo projector 4 years ago and never looked back. It's really hard to appreciate a good movie anymore on a TV (unless the TV gets up to 100+inches). Price for the projector and the screen was much more reasonable compared to any decent TVs out in the market and to match big sound, you really need a big screen or else it just doesn't balance. 4 years and the bulb is still going strong. I still have 6 other TVs in the house but I wouldn't waste a good movie on it.
