Now thats a run on sentence if i have ever seen one. If you have to ask if your being scammed then your being scammed. DON'T DO IT. NExt hes gunna tell you he going to send you $1,000,000, take what the phones worth and send him back the rest.

No such country as "West Africa" and note the "OR bank to bank transfer" - he's after your bank acct number.

I'm not too sure how it works with Craigslist, but this same exact scam has been tried on me in the past on ebay. It was my first time selling something as expensive as a phone (p910i = $600). It was used so I was hoping to sell it for around $500. Then, the day before the auction ends, I get a message from a member offering to bid $600 if I could ship the item to his son in Indonesia. I was like WHY THE HELL NOT!? He sends me the money and the next day I box the item and send him an email saying that I shipped the item. Thank god when I got to the post office it was closed, so I waited until the next day to ship. Right before I left for the post office, I double checked the address on paypal and to my surprise my account balance was $0.00. I had also received a notification that someone had "hacked" this buyers account and made the purchase. Needless to say I left a blatantly obvious "scammer alert!" feedback on his account, which he closed days later.

Are any of them in your area? I'd say to take that route if you wanna be safe. Personally I would stick to ebay. Best of luck!

Of course there are nice Africans-not all are like that. But I'd say 85% are very difficult to deal with. In Manhattan, they're known to steal UPS account #'s and rack up next day air shipments on a stolen account. They also are notorious for fake money orders and selling stolen goods. Ahhhh I can't wait to hit the lotto or find another line of work.
wow least you got to vent ahaha i serious don't like CL but ebay gets annoying with stupid people lol

Sounds like a scam for sure...tell him to pay you by pay pal, and don't ship anything out until the money clears...

When dealing with Craigslist, I only deal with in person transactions. There are too many scams out there...Heck, I thought paypal was safe but now with people getting thier accounts hacked, I stopped accepting paypal. Now its in person cash or no deal.

I don't think money clearing is the problem. You also have to make sure that you ship to the person's confirmed address, and not their brother/sister/friend's address. That way, they can email paypal and say someone hacked their account and had the item delivered elsewhere and get a refund.
