Autobahn?

Are the Germans good about filling pothole on the autobahn? Has anyone here had a problem with the autobahn roads?

Wow, driving in the US must be really bad then.
The roads are generally in good repair, but are not perfect, especially anywhere there are roadworks (which is a good portion of the A6). Back roads are not kept nearly as well, especially if you want to go play in the mountains.

The autobahn is about twice as thick as our crappy freeways. I'm sure it has less problems.

That's because they are always under repair too, Hell I think that section of A6 right next to 656 must be under construction for the last 5 or 6 years. Even worse then that is A8 going to Stutgart.

The road are in good shape for the most part but it takes forever to get them fixed once they're damaged. I think it has something to do with drinking beer during lunch time!

the germans are really good at construction on the autobahn. They spend months repairing 100 meters of road. It must be all those beer breaks

compared to other countries, our autobahn is very good. but don't get the wrong impression. we do have loads of rush hour congestions, lot's of road work and a lot of autobahn roads with only 2 lanes (one blocked by large trucks, the other one by small and slow cars).

so.. yes, it is good over here, but not THAT good!

NJ has the best record of fixing every road. We have no pothols and the roads are as smooth as they were when they were new. It really is unbelievable.

Potholes are very rare on the German Autobahn as the cement is two feet thick. More than twice as thick as what is used in the states. Therefore, it's very rare to get a pothole.

Damn.. but that doenst count for the A8 Munich - Stuttgart. I am often driving this route and the A8 is only shit! Much traffic (esp. trucks!), only two driving lanes in one direction and much holes..

This Autobahn is just freakin shit... it was built between 1934 - 1936 and sometimes i think that there was no maintenance since then...
But i also have to say, that not all Autobahns are in such a condition.. But if you have to drive much time on such Autobahns like the A8 you are getting sick because of the bad conditions...

are you serious? i've been to NJ multiple times and just about the only good roads there are in Princeton, the rich yuppie area. other than that I've found NJ roads to be terrible compared to MA.

NJ has the best roads??? Where do you drive? Not on the public streets where I live!!!
Try the 407 up in Toronto. I haven't seen anyone driving like it was the autobahn but it's the closest I've seen.

The best and most free flowing autobahn I have driven is the A7 going south towards the Alps. It you get on at the A8/A7 cross and go south to Fussen, the road is normally very good...expecially on Sunday when there are no trucks on the road. Also a lot of fun is the A9 off the A6...lots of good curves and hills. The A1 going north out of Saarbrucken towards Koln is good as well..especially north of the Mosel river.
