I made the mistake of driving 200 miles after an eight hour night shift. About five miles from my destination I suddenly realized that my going 70 mph on cruise control was not compatible with the car doing 40 mph 75 yards in front of me. Fortunately, there was nothing in the righthand (fast) lane.

Glad you hear your friend is OK.

Yeah, these days driving home (35kms) from my Wednesday night gig I go real slow...I'm usually really tired and that's without any pre, post, or during glasses of wine.

No kidding. i lost a sister in 1994 in a car accident, she was 20. It was a, 1980's Toyota Tercel, and she lost control in a roundabout in Tampa....those cars were s**t back then. A similar accident today and she would have walked away.

A little catnap is all it takes to refresh!

nice to near your friend's ok but not nice to hear about your sister

yeah i do agree a few minutes of sleeping will be enough. it's surely a lot better than dozing off at the wheel. those are always scary!

I don't see how anyone can doze off while driving unless their willpower is zero. Even if I'm dead tired, have been awake for 40 hours and feeling like fainting, the minute I step into a car I kick my body into overdrive and feel alert. I don't see why anyone else can't do this. It's just a matter of deciding, 'OK I have to drive now so Mr. Body you need to be alert until I put it back in drive.'
