Those figures are grossly out of date. At yesterday's rate of exchange for GBP ($2.0129) and a litre of petrol in London being around £1.10 and there being 3.785 litres in a US gallon, the true price today is around $8.38 per US gallon here; 45% more than mentioned in that table.
And even if they were giving free tanks of fuel in Caracas, I'd not move there.

I don't think you can blame the price of fuel on the war. I think it has to do more with that world demand for fuel is increasing and supply for the most part as remained constant.

Even if you want to blame demand of growing economies like India and China, it's still a fact that, with only 5% of the world's population, the U.S. consumes a quarter of the world's oil. After that, it's pretty simple supply and demand theory that I learned in 11th grade economics: prices go down when people buy less of a good. Prices go up when people buy more of a good. And prices go WAY up when demand outstrips available supply. Want cheaper gas? It's easy -- stop buying it

1st of all WHY ARE YOU FILLING UP GAS FROM COSTCO?
http://www.toptiergas.com/retailers.html 2nd this is repost since we've dicussed this before....in LA for a while it almost hit 4.00 a gallon Finally, this is inevitable....notice that gas prices have been going up but stations haven't reflected that increase? Well now they are so just keep expecting prices to go up... |

You're already starting to see this, at least in the developed countries. Demand in 2008 is projected to be down YOY in the US, which is very unusual. One big problem is many developing countries, including China, subsidize the price of gasoline, and that doesn't properly incentivize the end user to adjust their consumption based on market pricing.

Mature oil fields make it harder and harder to extract the oil, and the easy stuff has been tapped. The next round of fields comming on line will be in more difficult areas to extract, and that will keep prices up for a while. Supply was barely keeping up with demand 8 years ago. The little bit of consumption growth is outpacing supplies, so that will keep prices high. Long term, reports are showing that supplies are bouncing back at these high prices as demand has tapered off, so that should apply some pressure to keep prices from going too much higher. In the short term, it's the time of year for formulation changeover, so that impacts availability and may be the cause of the recent surge. If people don't like the price, they shouldn't drive. There are options.
