How to Disable DRL's in Canada
I have an 08-2008 build 335i (no i-drive), and would like to disable my DRLs since the wiring inside my headlight assembly is faulty, causing one of my DRL's not to work. They said the only way to fix is a new headlight assembly ($1500!)
Instead of having just one working DRL, I would rather disable them altogether and avoid people always telling me I have a burnt headlight. I tried to use the method with the stalk and I don't have the option to disable DRLs... maybe a Canadian thing since DRLs are law here? ANy advise or am I missing something?

At the very worst it can be coded out with BMWhat and a OBD bluetooth dongle.

If you are going to disable your headlights, atleast code your car to run DRL foglights. It's illegal to drive without any DRL's, and you'll get harassed by cops.
And to answer your request, coding is the best way to go on about to disable DRL's |

Never heard of a ticket for no DRL's in Canada, but doesn't mean it can't or won't happen?
Also - Canadian cars do NOT have DRL defeat feature on the BC. You can however use coding to make it almost whatever you want. For my 2008 pre-LCI E90 328, this makes the AE the full time DRL. If you lookup that Module / Entry you can likely find a "TO:" value for various options. If you don't do coding, you will need some help - requires a special cable, software, and a steep learning curve at the start. Module: CAS > NFRM Entry: VERHALTEN_DRL_TFL From: drl_h To: drl_s edit: DRL law in Ontario, Canada: Doesn't exist. They tried to make it a law in 2010 and failed. Not sure about other provinces... but you'd be safe in Ontario! http://www.ontariocanada.com/registr...62&language=en |

Sorry, I don't have any first hand knowledge of that device. It says it supports "popular basic coding" elements, but I didn't see that they listed what those might be.
Maybe a forum search will give clues or someone else hopefully can jump in to answer. |
