Been rumbling around the rumor mill for years. I'm not going to hold my breath.
On the other hand, if they are going to make it, 59k is a LOT of money for a car like that, ESPECIALLY considering the old S2k went for a few grand under 40k (~$37k or so) back in 2009. And that was MSRP, I doubt many folks actually paid that price. ~$22,000 price increase is too much. Spending that would be good for a ticket to the local asylum. Fair number of other options in that price bracket. Not like you'd be buying old Honda reliability either.. My old Honda was junk, and it wasn't an isolated problem, this BMW has been vastly more reliable.

The GT-R is 'just a Nissan' that costs $110,000.

"But it has bulletproof reliability" stops being solid justification at a certain price point. The NSX is a perfect example. With no major power upgrades to keep up with the competition, sales slumped massively. Same thing happened with the S2000.

Maybe a bit, but mostly because they could've bought an low mileage NSX for 20k less. Also I'm biased based on the fact that the NSX is my second fav Japanese car but I've always viewed the S2k as a girl's car without auto tranny option

Previous to my car I had an S2000. I could have easily just switched into newer models if they just kept it going.
Simply put, the S2000 was one of the best cars I ever owned. I wish I kept it as a weekend car. |

Exactly. Zero sound insulation, quieter with the top down than up, abusive suspension, transmission would heat up your right leg, unforgiving of mistakes, and I loved every minute of it. Although, no girl that has ever been in that car (in my experience) shared the same feelings.

The S2000 had an LSD, RWD, stiff suspension, minimal creature comforts, the ability to touch every control on the car without moving your hand off the steering wheel. Not to mention that the AP1's (pre-lci's in BMW nomenclature) didn't have stability control or cup holders. Not sure how you can be much more driver focused than that. |

I'd love to be proven wrong and have them release this car and have it be a fantastically engineered machine. I might even buy one, I was and still am a Honda fan. However, I agree with the other poster who said it was likely to be vaporware, unfortunate but the stats point in that direction. Anyone remember the S3000? Yeah, that was vaporware too.
