i noticed the order of things on my onboard computer changed after my car went in for service...

Example: the first thing on my instrument cluster used to be mpg followed by live mpg... after service the first thing was total miles till fill up.

Did I get my software changed?

I have also been on other forums and read about this new software, many people are very angry about this issue. I myself will wait until this gets solved. I read that bmw says they will have a fix by this fall. What is this 29.2 program for? Is it a new program for bmw to find out if people have chip mods and take them out before service? I only wonder why they would make the car lag more, because people want this engine over the other turbo cars because it doesn't lag like the sti and evo. Does anybody know why bmw did this? People on e90 forum are very angry with the lag now.

V81 is a newer DME, as in updated hardware. It's main update seems to be picking up when there is more than 300 ft-lbs of torque and keeping a record of it.

Chris, do you have a V80 or V81 car? Maybe V29 works better with the new DME?

this is not true, we will only program/update a vehicle if it requires a programming update. reasons to program are if a control module was replaced, the new software corrects a customer complaint, programming prior to accessory retrofit, and on occasions when the service engineer instructs us to, otherwise we will not just update your vehicle because it was in for service nor will bmw na pay for the programming to individual dealers.

that being said, the basic purpose of v81 is that it recognizes manipulations to the boost air pressure and when faults are interrogated technicians and engineers can see that it in fact it has some sort of aftermarket software or piggypack ecu.

This is the eventual response I received from BMW UK, after my query has received an initial reply and was then referred to Germany:

Dear Mr Davis

Thank you for your patience in this matter, I have now heard back from my technical experts.

They have informed me that here have been software alterations to the engine management system of the N54 in relation to the operation of the waste gates. It has been confirmed that these changes have no noticeable influence on power, torque or the response of the engine.

With this in mind, may I suggest contacting your local BMW Approved Dealership to test drive a 135i with the latest software. This test drive will be able to lay your mind at rest about the performance of the 135i that you have on order.

I trust this information is of use and can assure you of my personal attention should you have any further queries.

So does the new software update detect the SSTT? Or is the SSTT still undetectable in 29.2? I recently ordered the Turbo Timer and am really sketched out about it being detected.

This issue is disturbing, I am really excited to drive a 135i and hope I don't feel the lag. I think new owners won't notice like people who have older 335i's that they were use to, then having this new program installed caused them to notice more lag than before. I think waiting now to get a 135i would be a good idea.

I wonder if BMW gives magazines 135i cars without this new program so they don't notice the lag? This would be bad. I have read that alot of people on e90 forum are quite upset, some people are actually selling their 335i's because of the added lag from this program.

I did read somewhere that BMW is supposed to solve this problem by the fall of 2008. Lets all keep our fingers crossed.

Lets all be patient and hope for the best.

And a bunch of people are starting to sell their turbo tunners on the forums. I really hope that the new software and SSTT mix

SSTT doesn't alter the TMAP signal outside of what the EUC would normally do given Barometric pressure & Temperature. SO...unless BMW is going to say it's own factory specs are "out of spec"....:iono: The BMW factory ECU is still making all decisions in your car.

Ref post #1 is pure BS

Ref post #2 is talking about traditional piggy backs that alter beyond factory specs.

but to each his/her own....There isn't a "bunch" of people selling. I've seen 1 selling.

http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11616

He doesn't give a reason either so speculation can be anything.

btw...since SSTT in on a HUGE AMOUNT of N54 motors 535i/335i/135i and nobody had posted a DME v81 or v29.2 SSTT horror story...It's pretty safe to say "it's not an issue". Manufacture has tested at dealership with BMW eq. and also backs this up.

People make the turbo lag out to be much worse than it is. Drove my 1'er back to back with my father 535 (old software/computer), and there was hardly any difference.

If I had a my car in the states, I think Dinan would be the way to go...much less risk in my opinion. Unfortunately, my car is not in the states but...seems like a lot of risk to take when messing with the factory warranty...just my thoughts. I know many people run sstt and similar with no problems with warranty or reliability but I'm too much of a worrier and would gladly pay the extra money for the peace of mind.

there wasnt any different between your father´s 535 and your 135 that sounds bad cause that car needs to be much slower than 135i just because of the weight
