I looked up the Patrimony. There's a waitlist on the website, score for you! That, to me, is one of the coolest parts about actually visiting the winery. You can try and buy wines that you just can't find elsewhere. Then, when you open it, the memories add to the drinking experience, too.
So, the Phoenix area is really no fun to be around during the month of August. We are contemplating a drive up the coast for a couple weeks to get out of here. Days 1,2 in Santa Barbara. Days 3-6 in Cambria. Days 7-8 in Half Moon Bay to visit family. Days 9-13 in Napa, then we'd make our way home. I already have a pretty solid list of wineries going. We just have to figure out how to finagle a couple business things remotely to take that much time away. I'm excited, though, as it should be a good trip! BMWGUYinCO It was the pics of your car on your road trip that inspired this thought. Driving the M3C up PCH sounds like something I need to do! We haven't taken a long road trip in many years, so thank you! |

Picked up our wine from the Materra Wine dinner we attended last week. Two bottles of each. Opened a Right Bank for dinner. Still good…

Believe it…..from Sam’s Club. Hint of dark cherry and pepper. Gentle on the palate and dry…almost Bordeaux like. Great value @ $18.97. Pairing it with a Cowboy Ribeye also from Sam’s.

Follow up……the wine was superb especially at it's price point. The ribeye….not so much. Trust me, I know how to properly grill a tomahawk ribeye. The quality of the meat is #1 and sadly this Sam’s Club Choice Angus steak, while a bargain at $18.97/lb, was not very high quality. I’ve bought Sam’s Club prime ribeyes and filets many times and they are always very good. I cannot recommend the “Cowboy” Ribeye. Lesson learned. I’ll return to Fresh Market and happily pay the price for high quality meat.

I kid you not, 10 minutes after getting home from the hospital yesterday UPS arrived with my wine club shipment. I didn’t even know it was coming until it had shipped. Good timing!

Thank you for the good words, and will do! I have PT 4 times/week for at least the next 12 weeks. (More as needed and approved by insurance.). My goal is solidly walking with a walker for short distances by the time that 12 weeks is over. Keeping on keeping on! |

The Winemakers Muse. This year's release it’s a red blend, and very good.

Grapes from Paso and processed by the good folks at Tor in Napa. So good. Sorry about the scuffs on the label, bottle is a bit of a fat bottom.

I am such a sucker for cheap wines...Tisdale Sweet Red is my favorite. Hard to find in Virginia, I end up ordering from NY

My wife and I spent a long weekend in Napa a few days ago (and I'm not really much of a wine fan, but my wife and our friends? They could pass a Somme test tomorrow). A few recommendations:
Titus Vinyards: We did a tasting there-- excellent reds, and their Sauv Blanc isn't any slouch either as a "summer sippable". The tasting facility is very nice and the price-point is almost reasonable. Reservations required. BASH2024: Wine tasting & food pairing competition at the Culinary Institute of America. This was a **LOT** of fun, and if you're remotely a foodie, I'd really recommend going next year. 25 stations with thee-person CIA-student teams. Each station had a 'bite' of food with an appropriate pairing-- and some of the wines (mostly Reds, but a few Whites and Rose's) were from very small vineyards. My wife and our friends found a couple that really enjoyed and are going to check out. It was a little on the spendy side, but we had a blast-- we'll definitely be going again in 2025. As a bonus, my buddy's wife won the raffle-- ~$700 worth of wines (6 bottles) that were poured that evening.... score! Wine pairing lunch with Moone-Tsai Wineries: (Mostly) reds in the French style, so my wife was in heaven. My wife and my buddy's wife bid on an auction at some wine event that I wasn't at, and this was the result-- a lunch/wine pairing event for six. They're more of a "custom crush" winery and they're a little on the spendy side. However, one of the other couple that was with us (friends of friends) is in the wine industry (Cakebread) and he was very impressed. Mumm Napa: We had a tasting here as well that featured their "local" bubbles (i.e. not the ones you get at Costco. Very nice, but maybe a bit drier than my usual preference (which is more along the lines of Shramsberg). To be fair, they're at a *far* more reasonable price point than the Shramsberg or Grand Dame that I'm fond of. All in all, it was a great weekend. We stayed at Dr. Wilkenson's, which is a fun spa/hot springs hotel in downtown Calistoga. **ALL** of the wineries I listed are very much recommended-- there wasn't a bad one in the bunch. R.
