Why would you expect a 911 to feedback the feel of a large Mercedes sedan that is meant to hammer the autobahn at 140+ MPH all day long?

If you did, then yes, you are nuts.

No offense meant, but you asked

Do what you want. What I find more nutty is guys who claim to be “car” guys, but in reality they are “only the cars that I deem worthy” guys.

It’s your money do what you want. If you are tired of the Porsche get something else. Worst case you end up missing it and buy another down the road.

I sold my C7 for the Model 3 mid pandemic as I wasn’t driving much and while I loved the C7… I was also tired of getting in and out, the shitty ride quality and random issues that would popup. So traded it for the Model 3. At the time I just had the Model 3, Truck and a Corolla. Eventually I started missing having a manual V8 in the house again so I sold the Corolla and bought the Mustang which I find to be a good compromise (I actually ended up loving the Model 3 so kept that).

If the market ever comes down I have no doubt I will probably switch cars every year or so again… because I like cars.

Drive the Tesla and see which you prefer, it's your money and your car at the end of the day.

But as others have stated, I don't see how you could trade in the world's most iconic sports car with decades of pedigree for an iPad on wheels that weighs as much as a Range Rover.

Most people who are convinced that Teslas are sports cars were never car enthusiasts to begin with. These are nerds who drove slow ass Priuses and Subarus beforehand and now finally have a fast car that they won't shut up about. There is a massive difference between a fast car and a sports car, and only a true car enthusiast understands this.

They are just things. If a thing does not fit your need/want/usage then replace that thing with something that does. Pretty simple.

The exception is if you're buying a thing to turn a profit on it. But then you're left with a time factor and costs associated therein.

It sounds like you want something you enjoy driving and the Porsche just isn't that. You're trying to work with it but it just isn't the feel you're after. maybe the M5 ruined you, spoiled you. You're looking for something on that level but better, equal performance and comfort. from what I've seen the vast majority of performance cars won't fit a bigger guy and offer any reasonable comfort. You'll always have a side bolster jabbing a kidney or the seat sides will squeeze your nuts so hard you don't dare heel/toe.

I say do drive a few cars and see if something strikes your fancy.
Another option would be a Tesla Roadster. I don't know much about them. Looks to be more sporty appearing though.

Agreed with the person above who said if you want a Tesla, it should be the M5 that goes

You should be able to get more money for your 911 than what you paid a year ago even with the added 6k miles...I would venture to guess you can get at least 10% more and possibly closer to 15%.

I appreciate all the feedback. Yes, I’m a true car guy. I do adore the GTS, it’s the sweet spot of the 911 range but it’s a bit snug. No, not selling the M5, I really love it, complete with tune, suspension, exhaust and HREs, no selling that…plus my son loves it too. What I’ll do is buy the Tesla for my wife, problem solved..

"Can't we have both" is a great choice.

In 5 years you'll have an awesome 911 and be ready to upgrade to the next iPhone model, I mean Tesla.

You're not nuts.

I go back and forth a lot on cars and pre pandemic switched every 1-2 years.

If it's not making you happy, and you won't miss the loss of sales tax or any depreciation, then you have nothing to lose by moving on.

Neither of those really sells me but one thing to say : Porsche is a cool brand and describes epitome of high end the automotive world to me which rises and picks up my appreciation to the its fullest point .
I hate manual gear trannies and yours is also manual which is a proper choice for the hardcore car fans which lames over fading away manual trannies to the automatic ones

Since you have spent money on the M5 with some mods, why not mod the 911. Surely there are seats out there that you would find a better fit.

Garage List
Gotta be happy with what you have or it's not worth the hefty price tag. Thankfully I am happy with my cars, only wishing I had the 6.2L in my truck instead of the 5.3L. The truck will be the next upgrade for me, but I will likely wait until there is a reliable electric truck with great range... so it will be a few years.

Agree. I have a “wandering eye” too when it comes to cars; however, I learned the hard way (on a couple of occasions) that it is better to stick with what you have than to make an impulse purchase. Regret is a costly beast.

Good luck with your decision.

First off in my opinion you are not nuts. When a person is nuts they don't often ask others if they are nuts and they don't usually care anyways. The cars that you thinking of selling and buying are both on my bucket list but so far are unobtainable. Obviously you have the means to do this so why not. Should you not be pleased with the changes none of this has to be permanent. I also like the fact that you will have driven the Porsche for virtually free. Good luck with whatever changes you make and keep us posted. I would like to know from an owner of these two autos your experiences.

I share your sentiment as I like to be tactful too, but the guy you quoted was obviously just joking...besides, considering going from a Pcar to a Tesla?! What in the.... Cmon!

You realize they're nuts, right, although they kinda could be misconstrued as feces if one squinted, so maybe that was the source of your outrage?
