I used the "Soot in the particle filter" and "distance since last regen" parameters. I noticed my mpg needle seemed to be hovering a little lower than I would expect for my cruise speed, and I usually put that down to a slight upwards slope. But this time, it suddenly shot straight back up to where I expected it to be at the same time as the "Soot in the particle filter" and "distance since last regen" both reset to zero on the app - it was fluke, I just saw it all happen at once. If I hadn't had the app, I would not have known a regen had taken place.

I also think there is a "regen requested" parameter but haven't tested that yet.

Hope that helps!

The BMWhat website list EVERYTHING you can code.

Can anyone who bought this confirm if the app can display things like the 'diesel particle filter' % figure? Had my car in for a service recently and they told me all 6 glow plugs are showing errors when I went to pick the car up, problem is I can't get any time off to get it fixed for a while, would be nice to be able to keep an eye on it to put my mind at ease until it goes in for service. If it gets bad maybe I can borrow a car for a bit or catch the train instead but would rather not have to go through this hassle. I have an iphone 5S so interested if the Apple version can read these figures, I think the android app can do more though so would consider buying a cheap android tablet if absolutely needed.

At what sort of % should I start to get worried, have heard DPF issues can be rather expensive if it gets properly blocked up.

Any help appreciated on this, if anyone lives near Lincoln/Grantham and has the app working it would be nice to see it in action as well.

If it matters the car is a 330D Coupe registered end of November 2007 (so well after 03/2007 but not an LCI model), not too clear from the website if my car would work with the wifi dongle as the BMWhat iphone app shows the wifi adapter as incompatible for coding on cars manufactured 'before facelift 03/2007'. I guess reading would be OK but if I'm going to buy the dongle I'd like coding ability as well.

thanks

Hello, I can only talk for the Android version, but it can display:
- distance since last regeneration
- amount of soot in the particle filter
- particle filter temperature
- estimated miles left before the particle filter snuffs it (not sure how accurate this is)

With these parameters, you should be able to determine when and if the car is doing a regen.

ok great thanks for that, when it shows the amount of soot in the particle filter does it show it as a percentage of maximum or in grams etc?

Reason I ask is the vehicle report I got my local independent garage to print off for me just lists "diesel particle filter: Availability 40%" on it so if I was going to directly compare the figures I'd need a percentage. No idea if that's good or bad or how long it takes to clog up the filter, have started filling with V power diesel though in the hopes that might burn a little cleaner

I asked the BMWhat app developers and they seem to think I may need the version for the pre 03/2007 cars with it not being an LCI model, that dongle for the iphone still isn't released yet though so maybe this will come too late for me this time around.

I have done a 2006 and a 2008 with the cable just to test if it would work. You would need the same cable as you would code a car with, as well the OTG adapter and compatible phone. Not all androids support OTG cable to USB setup.

Again it depends on the phone, but you will need an OTG USB cable for your phone. Again I used it on my 2008 just for kicks because I have the bluetooth adapter but wanted to test it. According to the app creator the 2006 you need the OTG cable.

It only shows it in grams. I think on mine it usually gets to between 30 and 40 grams before it does a regen, which seems to take between 300 and 400 miles on my car. I haven't seen any percentages. I think the V Power is a good idea - I do the same.

My car isn't an LCI model and the Android + wireless adaptor works spot on.

Which device are you using?

I use an Android phone on a May 2007 car. The Bluetooth dongle didn't work, so got the cable and USB OTG adapter instead which works a treat.

I don't know what you need for iOS devices.

That should with 99% certainty be the dongle. I can code my 2008 with both the dongle and the USB OTG cable and coding cable. Ive done a huge number of 2008s with the dongle. So far the only car I needed to use the cable version was a 2006. Ive done a handful of 2007's but I did not pay attention to production year. I plug into the car and if it works it works, if not I jump to the OTG cable.

Also the wifi or bluetooth is based on your phone, wifi is Iphone, bluetooth is android.

Thanks to William managed to do some coding.

I just basically bought a mini USB to female USB cable for £2.50 worked a treat, some phone do not support OTG or host USB samsung s4 does thats what i use on android.

My car is apparently comptaible with blutooth being 08/2007 but it didnt bloody work unless i got a cable.

My cable is actually what i bought from BM cables for i think it was £20 with all the software.

I had these codes, replaced the glow plugs but the error codes remained. Had the control module replaced today and and now all the errors have gone.

Cheers for the prompt reply buddy. Mine is under BMW warranty so reckon its worth flagging this up with them? Did you notice any symptoms from the error code?

no symptoms, can ran perfectly. Also no lights on the dash. I'd have been non the wiser had I not checked the error codes with the app.
